I'm all for using the original type material in a restoration, but...it seems the vinyl laminate would have been bonded to the sheet particle board before it was cut into the side panels, etc.. So..applying adhesive vinyl isn't 'exact' making me think a formica type laminate would be acceptable. Thing is, with a Formica/Wilsonart laminate, you can order it at Home Depot or Lowes and there are a lot of woodgrain choices. You have to apply it with contact cement in a can, lots of pressure with a j-roller, then flush trim bit with a router. Aside from cost and work, another downside is that it's slightly thicker than the vinyl, which can affect the look of the t-molding/wood.
