I'm breaking the golden rule of posting before I pick up a game but the payment and purchase is locked in through eBay and Paypal so I think I'm in the clear.

I promised my mom I wouldn't get another game until I finished my truck and I was really promising myself I was going to save up money. I feel quite bad about breaking this promise (mostly to myself) but hopefully it's going to a good pickup. After this I'm officially out of room in the garage and then I think I will want to save up. Every time I buy something it pains me to spend money because when you're 16 / 17 + have no job you get little trinkles of cash twice a year, Christmas and birthdays if I'm lucky (I'm very grateful.) My 17th birthday was on the 4th and I did get some money and I'm also doing art commission work to hopefully get some funds and I was really hoping to save it all up to do something big with or buy my grail of a late 80's Williams pin (Taxi is grail) and I was honestly of getting tired of the effort into picking up games for now. Not just the physical labor, but it goes: Find ad, wonder if I really want this -> Count all of my money in my possession, I have no "arcade budget" or extra funds it's literally all I have and if I don't have it that's too bad -> Fret over asking parent to help transport and store ANOTHER game (thanks mom <3) -> Fit game into mint condition minivan with the risk of getting killed if something gets messed up -> Unload game with mom (thanks again mom lol) -> Adjust a billion other HEAVY games to get it into the row, alone. Voila.

Well, this decision was a bit rushed. Somebody posted this ad to Pinside, New Jersey is pretty dry with any arcade related and the video scene is definitely a lot more dead than the pinball scene. $300 for a Gottlieb Spring Break, made 1987. Gottliebs would probably be my choice of EM pins but I'm a Williams fan all around, not too much a fan of the backbox on this era of Gottlieb games but I've been yearning for a pin with attract mode (Flash should be up and running the same weekend too, power supply cap kit is IN ROUTE!) and more of the 80's playfield art style for a long time now and I hope this game is fun! It looks really fun and I never thought I would own a game with ramps and whatnot, multiball, and whatever else. It was a quick decision and without growing up in these eras I have nothing I really want from experience or nostalgia which is difficult so every purchase I make is pretty much a plunge. I'm a big 80's fan and these pin really has that feel maybe even too much but it definitely looks cool and fun, big fan of the playfield art (quite possibly for the reason you're thinking, I'm not sure).

I'm really excited, I didn't think my next step up would be a pin this advanced and I was (and totally am!) honestly very happy with my project Flash and I think that still might be my favorite piece but I couldn't pass this deal up and hopefully from a financial aspect it was a good choice too. I had $10 leftover from money given to me as a birthday gift to purchase a steering board in my PayPal wallet (thanks to my uncle who I suppose was slightly shocked he couldn't play Double Axle) so I ended up paying $290 for the entire machine. The short description claims everything work, has free play mod already installed. I hope I love this machine or at least like it enough, I think upgrading it and reselling it can get some major profit or definitely my money and time back if I really don't like it but I think I will, I try to take everything with an open mind and I suppose if I can spend a lot of time on EMs way before my time I'll definitely enjoy this. Soundtrack is cool too, definitely gives some vibes.

So, this weekend. Spring Break. Flash working, I hope. Double Axle fully working. 1 and a half games left to repair and I've repaired my entire collection, only 2 out of 7 came to me working or partially working and now 5 are going at this moment in time.

Fingers crossed it looks like this in person and it doesn't wreak of cat piss or something crazy like that. The eBay handle is very soccer-mom-esque so I'm thinking possibly a divorce situation or the playfield's a bit too racy for their house? No clue. Wish me luck this weekend.

I've already been having a really really shitty month in life and then:

I was really really excited. I don't know why people do this. Guess I bit myself by posting the thread, didn't see this coming at all. You live and learn I guess but I'm just more disappointed I won't be getting this machine. :( Completely refunded it seems. Really stinks though, I was so excited and I was hoping this could get my mind off of all the other not-so-fun stuff that's been going on recently, really kinda needed that too. Bummer. I guess I'll go back to saving up. Ugh.

Yep, game pickup rule #1: if it's not yours yet, it's not yours yet.

Yeah. I really thought it wouldn't apply but of course then it did. Oh well.

It just wasn't meant to be I guess. I'm going to save up for another Williams SS pin, particularly Gorgar or Time Warp and I'm sure I'll be much happier during the pick-up then anyways, I love those machines all around while I was just wanting to pick up Spring Break for the playfield / gameplay and neat attract mode and soundtrack. Not a fan of the rest of the game's design (System 80B games in general) so maybe it's better in the long run.

And here is what happened. You Bought it for 300.00 payment made. (So It is yours you would think) BUT!!!! after it was sold some ass fuck emailed them and offered 350.00 for it, and of course being a greedy SOB he took it, and wrote you a OH I am sorry I sold it before and never pulled it off the auction.

Happens A lot.

Especially with pins.

soo....you are 17, dont have a job, live with your mom, and are spending all of your money buying pinball and arcade machines. sounds smart.

soo....you are 17

Yes

dont have a job

I left school for online school in 8th/9th grade for health problems which still aren't better (Not bullshit problems, my stomach rejects everything I eat and my only meal choices are about a list of 12 or so long or I'm curled up in bed, eating specific things helps but not all the way), I wanted to work already when I was 14 and have been just as excited about it for the past three years but I soon realized until this is fixed I wouldn't be consistent enough to hold a solid job, I do little things from home to make money for myself. (like art commissions) Really hoping to get the health issues fixed up but it's been apparent through my entire lifetime and only getting worse so here's hoping to the doctors finding something. Getting off topic here, sorry.... Hoping to also expand my artwork commissions to a service sometime so I can spend all that extra free time wisely and earn a profit and save up for the future.

live with your mom

Err, yeah? You can't even legally move out until you're at least 18...

Why not? I enjoy it. Being alone besides family all of the time really kind of sucks, and even though there's a giant age gap in the hobby, working on stuff with other collectors and meeting them is fun too, common interests and stuff. And obviously repairing and maintaining my set of games keeps me busy and interested and also helps me learn a lot. I didn't want it to sound like I buy them very often, just when I do, it usually wipes out my funds which I get infrequently. By no means do I get a new machine one a week or anything like that, nor do I get money that often.

My vehicle was bought cheap and my father and I are putting some serious blood and sweat into that, so, I don't need to save up for a car. The only other thing I could think of would be saving for college but that's not the route I want to take and will probably head to some other sort of school but honestly saving up for it isn't going to make me want to go any more. Housing is also something but I don't think leaving at 18 is the wisest choice even if you did have a decent job, I mean, you have a perfectly fine (in my situation, at least) living situation and you get fed for free and can put your money towards actually savings and whatnot. Obviously this is only socially and personally acceptable up until a point but I don't think I need to leave right on my 18th birthday, nor do my parents (or most) demand somebody of that age to leave.

Sorry for the long response but I could see how my situation could be a little confusing (I guess) and may seem irresponsible but nobody else ever brought it up so I figured I'd make it clear.

I'm only looking to make friends in this hobby and not enemies, so sorry if anything I said came off as a bit harsh or whatever. :) If I get in a rough spot one day it's nice to know I could probably restore, de-convert, and sell off my games and make a LOT back to support myself. I'm not over $1,000 into the hobby yet and I only pick up what I can afford. I re-use worthy parts and only fix what needs to be fixed.

Bummer that your deal fell through… Don't break the golden rule next time.

Don't mind the old farts. I know a few collectors your age, it's great that the next generation is picking up the hobby, because it's dead without fresh blood. Y'all can be a bit, uh, overenthusiastic at times, but then I think back to how I was as a teenager… yeesh.

Indeed a bummer.

Yeah, I get a bit excited about deals because they're rare for me I guess and I really do enjoy this hobby. Overall though I try to act accordingly and try to keep my cool and of course be respectful wherever I can. I am very thankful I'm more self-aware than say like a few years ago or so (lol) but I suppose that's what growing up is all about. I just try to be myself and just be laid back (those go together) and enjoy the hobby, very thankful for the helpful community around the hobby as well and so far nobody has really cast any doubt on the age thing, which was nice as I figured some bad apples would ruin it the reputation for the rest (either by being immature assholes or like setting their game on fire on accident) but the tiny younger community that also seems to be around seems to have mostly kind and usually well-spoken (usually) individuals from what I can see.

Just going to move on from this "deal" going bad. It's a bummer but I feel a lot better already, and you win some you lose some. I'm sure the money will go towards something even cooler eventually but for now I don't mind holding on it until that comes along.

That sucks!

On the bright side the gameplay looks like it might blow. Just doesn't seem like it has a good flow to it (I have no idea though as I've never played or even heard of this pin)

For $300, I think I'd have jumped on it as well, even though it's nothing special from a game-play perspective. Sorry you missed out!

Nothing like Gottlieb/Premiere games from this timeframe to take you back - the artwork is very specific to the period in which they were manufactured, and this one just screams mid-80's...

I'd take just about any older Williams pin over this - save up for your Gorger or other from that timeframe. I'd take Flash over this one any day!

It sucks to miss out on a deal. The up side is Gottlieb/ Premiere pins are tough to keep running sometimes and even harder to sell. Look for a classic Bally or Williams from the same era, much better gameplay and designs.

Did you see the Gorgar for sale on Pinside? https://pinside.com/pinball/market/ad/20711

It's in Baltimore though. FWIW, the seller is a KLOV'r as well (GuidoTorpedo).

Roadtrip! :D

.

Whoa, the drive for that is nothing. :D (1h 50m from my home in PA for anything isn't bad at all, really.)

It's set at $1,000+ though, I could never afford that at least at this point. Bummer. That's a real a beauty, too.

I know somebody is going to pick that up. I'd probably save up for it but I doubt the ad would last and I'd probably rather buy a Gorgar that's a bit uglier for a lot less and make it pretty again. My Flash has *beautiful* cabinet art, the backglass is okay, just the playfield is pretty trashed but it should still be playable and all the inserts and other stuff are good and there. Was kind of hoping for something similar in a Gorgar for around the same price (or even a little more) but I doubt I'll find that kind of deal again anytime soon. I'd probably rather have the cabinet needing paint with a nice playfield because I could probably re-paint the cabinet better, with stencils and whatnot.

I wish I could even make an offer on that Gorgar but I'm way out of the ballpark in terms of funds. Oh well. I'll find "mine" eventually. :D
