Just did a complete recap on an A One chassis n the caps took care of all the major issues it had......... Now it won't focus..... With the pot turned all the way down on the fly is about as good as it will get.. Far from crisp ........ What would cause this ???

A one is the chassis name ....pt no is AM 0629

fly is the only thing i didnt replace......before i changed the caps the bright on the fly had to be cranked to see a faint distorted picture..... now its there nice just not crisp

Sorry man I can't help you with that one, I've never heard of an A one... it's late, but more people should be online in the morning. Usually though, if you have focus problems there's a couple things it can be:

a. the focus wire (the thick one that runs to the neckboard socket
b. the focus pin (the seperate pin on the neckboard socket, it's all by itself in the circle)
c. any caps that connect to that pin/wire on the neckboard
d. the flyback
e. the tube

im suspecting the fly .....but well see what everyone else has to say......
thanks for the input

Here's the history of the monitor ........ When I got the machine it worked good jus had to degauss it after moving it home....... Worked great nice clear clean crisp picture for long time ..... Then customer called n said it was very faint ....... Went up n cranked up the brightness on the fly and it was still faint but usable ..... At that point i saw a fly change in its future ..... As time went on it became getting more distortion ..... Vertical lines colors off ect .... Till it was no longer usable ...... I took the chassis home to recap it and change fly but I can't find a fly for it and don't know what others would be a suitable replacement .... Every cap on the board was changed except the real big one ......... Now it's all good as far as the pic but the focus dosent really make it crisp ....... I'm still suspecting the fly for this reason ....... I don have a hi voltage probe to check the fly output, but a few times I took the chassis out moments after the unit was turned off ...... And there wasn't much of a charge in the tube compared to other monitors. Leading me to believe the hi V is low causing the focus probs ..... The rest I fixed with caps ........ Does anyone know a good source for flys or how or where to cross ref them ????
Thanks

Check the focus wire where it is soldered inside the tube socket on the neck board.

Connect the tube to a rejuvenator and test it.

By chance when you had the chassis out, could you have accidently moved any of the tabs on the convergence rings making it look out of focus?

Thanks ken ....I don't have a tube rejuvenator ..... But I will check the focus wire ..... I'm not familiar with the conv rings ........ Could you give me a quick briefing on them please ??
Thank you !!!
