Hooked up the NES and a 2600 to my old woody 13 inch color TV and started rifling thru the NES library. Tried Kid Icarus, great game. Then I popped in Wizards and Warriors, an obscure gem from Akklaim Entertainment. What a great fucking game. Cross Metroid with Ghosts N Goblins, then sprinkle in a little Rygar and Zelda, and you get a sweet, sweet fantasy game. This is what Deadly Towers should have been. Lots of worlds, underworlds, forests, etc to explore, cool power ups, awesome music. Love it. Any other fans from BITD, or new fans?

Oh wow, I haven't thought of that one in ages - good game! I don't think I have a copy :(

You need a copy of that one my man. I just sat down and got lost in it for over an hour. Had to finally just shut it off. That never happens to me anymore. Brought me back to '87 for sure. What a great game.

FANTASTIC GAME! The music that plays when you first turn it on.....awesome! Gotta love the super obvious item names. Dagger of throwing,etc...yeah......
One of my favorite box art covers as well.

If it is the game I am thiking of. Don't you eventualy get boots to kick open tougher treasure chests?

If so I remember trying to beat the game only by kicking enemies at one point. It is a little hazy in the memory department but was a really really fun game with good replay value, something many games of today do not have.

I love Wizards & Warriors. It has great graphics and music, but what else would you expect from RARE? Only thing that ruins it is the unlimited continues right where you die. That takes any challange away from the game. W & W II: Ironsword (you know the one with Fabio on the cover of the NES box/cart) is also good, and a much more challenging game.

Speaking of NES I finished 3 NES games today. Disney's Adventure in the Magic Kingdom, Totally Rad and Amagon. It's fun to pull out games you haven't beaten in 20 years and beat them again.

Amen to that! I still love playing the NES classics!

When I was a kid two favorites were Castelvania and Master Blaster. As much as I loved them I couldnt beat them in my youth. The other one was Mega Man. Although I beat Mega Man I had to use the cheat with the elec beam and the pausing trick on the boss where you had to hit him in the eyeball.

So I went and found all three games as I had given all mine away to a family member. I bought a system and had a good old 20 hour rot fest of playing nintendo, and beat all three (legit-ly in the Mega Man case).

The best part was nostalgia aside, those games are still truly great.

It seems that graphics and gameplay are inversely proportional. The better the graphics the worse the game gets and vice versa...just a thought I have been having as of late.

Anyways this thread made me think of it again, good times.

For some reason, the continues almost seem necessary in this game. Specially because of the way you have to randomly jump around the forest or a cavern not knowing exactly where you are going or where you are going to land and not knowing what will pop up to steal life points from you. It's just too easy to die. And really, the game is so fun I actually WANT to continue. I will be playing this again tonight. I love the boss stages. Just you and him (them in the case of the giant Bat) in a nice long hallway. I've only seen/beat the giant skull so far, so I have a long way to go. Looking forward to it.

Blaster Master is awesome! I have a sealed copy of it too :)

I played Wizards and Warriors a lot BITD. Great game. I need a copy myself.

I finished Wizards & Warriors last night. By the 4th level the mazes were getting kinda old. Kinda weird you don't even see the last bosses hit points. Still a pretty good game though.

Never did beat Master Blaster.I usually would get stuck in the late stages then my friends and I would try to see how high of a cliff we could jump the little guy off of while bouncing him off the edge of other platforms for max damage.Fun stuff. The yellow devil in Mega Man is a pain.Once you figure out the pattern it's a little less of a pain to kill him.

Once you remember where the keys are in this game, you can run through it fairly quickly.Sounds easier than it is of course.

W&W is definitely one of the best adventure games on the NES. I remember playing it as a kid and it was HARD once you got to the later levels. The music is very memorable (especially the intro music) and the game concept was unique as far as gameplay. Unfortunately, the sequels were nowhere near as good as the original.

I'll give the gameplay is better than Ironsword but the music trumps the original.....

I liked all three of the NES games, although I thought the third one could've been really awesome had they put more effort into it and did a few things differently.

i been playing this game for an hour, still not sure what the object is, I have picked up items and such but still jumping around in the forest???

You need to get to the top of the trees, somewhere near right center, make sure you have enough diamonds to gain access, then fall down the tree trunk and fight bees as you go. You'll get to the bottom, find a door and fight the first boss, ole Skully himself.

ahhh cool, im trying not to revert to youtube videos, ends up spoiling the fun, plus its not like we had em when we were kids

If I can remember right, most of the keys are up high in each level.I think for a few of the keys you need to use one of those pink/blue/red potions to reach them.
