Wizard of Wor... No wizard voice, and then I messed it up even more.

So in short:

No Wizard Voice.
Bought new SC01 Chip.
Put it in, but no wizard voice.
The other game play sounds work and the volume dials adjust like they should.

So I though I might have done something wrong.
Took another look.
Pulled the 5 boards.
Replaced them after looking into connections.
Turned on the game.

Here's where I messed up.....

The screen was black, white, and pink.
It was on for no more than 10 seconds.
I knew I messed it up, so I shut it off.
I opened the game up.
The multi-pin cable on the main board was off by one pin.
I bent one over and shifted the connections 1 pin over toward the front of the game.

Yes, I should never had touched it, I know.

Now, I purchased a complete 5 board set.
Tested and working 100%......I figured that replacing all of them would fix the issues.
but, I put that into my game, and I get the same screen issue.
...and still no wizard voice.

Can anyone help. I love this thing and so do friends and family.

Here's my pictures and one of the test screen. Screen and Static RAM OK, ROM is "X"

Well, given the fact that you get the same results with both sets of boards you should look at the cage and the connector that was off by one pin. Look at the bottom of the cage (comm. mother board). Is there anything burnt? Same with the connector - is anything burnt or pins broken off inside of it?

How about the wizard's voice? Did it just go out completely one day? Do you ever get any wizard voice at all when playing with the volume control? That could be something as easy as wiring (or bad connection) from the main board to the volume/sound board or wiring (or bad connection) from the volume/sound board to the third speaker. It could also just be a bad potentiometer for the wizards voice on the volume/sound board.

And don't be too hard on yourself - I guarantee there isn't a collector here that hasn't hooked something up improperly at least once.

Edit - Ah, I see your original thread. Wizard voice is probably just a loose connection since you have confirmed the wizards voice channel working on the sound board and the speaker working. Also, JU1 is supposed to be open on your sound board.

Well, I switched out the entire board set in a different cage all together. I will have to take a look at all the wiring connections and look further.

As for the voice, I did go over a few things. First off, it never worked. I was really pressed for time when I picked it up originally, I never even noticed it wasn't working when we tested it out. There are 3 speakers as you might know. Left player, Wizard in the middle, Right player. I switched the wiring from the center to the side and I get output from all speakers. So, I then swapped the volume pots from the board. Although the pots are somewhat loose and wobble from side to side, they do work.

Thanks for the help. I'll look into the wiring and see what I find.
