Hmmm. Seems like people complain constantly about Stern and their Photoshop graphics so I'll be interested to see if the JJ fans like this. Also, wouldn't it be cool if it was black and white and as you play through the modes, it changes to color?

Would look awesome with LEDs!

LOL...it's going to be displayed on a 26 inch. LCD monitor.

Jerry's paintings are so photorealistic, people could in fact mistake them for Photoshop. Knowing his artwork from his website, I knew it would be very realistic and based on actual images vs. being a 100% new interpretation.

So that image in the original post is supposed to be a painting? Judging by the differing shades and edges on the characters, it looks 100% Photoshopped to me.

Definitely agree. It actually looks like a bad photoshop job with the harsh lines separating the images. I'm sure it will be cleaned up before the final version but I would bet dollars to d'ohnuts that it's not a painting.

Guys, it is a low resolution black and white image of the backglass artwork. Jack stated it is an original painting by Jerry Vanderstelt. All work by Jerry on the machine is original artwork. He hired Jerry to do original artwork. Do you really think Jack is trying to pull one over on us when releasing this?

Look at Jerry's work at his web site:
http://www.vandersteltstudio.com/
It is very photorealistic. Do you expect a small B&W image done by a talented painter who makes realistic artwork to look like it isn't real? When seen so small, do you think it might look real enough that perhaps you'd say it could be Photoshopped?

Yeah, I think it's an early mockup...nothing wrong w/ Photoshop to figure out what you're painting before you paint it.

Heres some text to go along with it.

Greetings Pinball Fans!

Today, Jersey Jack Pinball, Inc. is happy to release this little teaser image of the Wizard of Oz backglass design. This design is arranged to encapsulate the basic essence of the Wizard of Oz film, capturing the happy and darker threads that this film is weaved with.

Although you are only seeing a rough black and white image, the full-color, final version will carry all the colors of this beautiful film in one glance.

Artist Jerry VanderStelt comments, "The cabinet sides, backbox sides, front coin door panel, backglass art and backbox glass insert are seven different works of art and will complete the story-telling treatment I have in mind for the entire exterior art package, but for now, enjoy this first glimpse into the backglass design of Jersey Jack's very own, "The Wizard of Oz" pinball machine!"

The artwork that is traditionally static as a backglass image will be displayed on a 26" commercial LCD monitor in the backbox. Certain treatments of that artwork will be shown at different times and in different ways on the LCD and this will enhance the attract mode of the game.

Jerry is creating these seven different works by hand painting each on canvas. Each piece could require 3-5 weeks to complete.

Jack said "If you know any of Jerry's works, you better be ready to see an awesome finished art package like none ever produced for a pinball machine before. When this takes life through color and depth, everyone will be blown away".

To ensure the brightness, intensity and detail that Jerry is famous for, all cabinet artwork will be printed using UV ink on the highest grade of adhesive backed vinyl and then applied to the cabinets.

To learn more about Jerry VanderStelt and view examples of his art, including his work in the pinball field, search the Internet Pinball Database (ipdb.org) or visit his official website at www.vandersteltstudio.com.

Anything on LCD screen backglass > tired ass DMD and static picture composed from scanned pictures off the movie's PR package

Pinball is suddenly kind of exciting. Like, there is something genuinely cool to get hype about. Hopefully it isn't just that...all hype.

wish i had the money to gamble on this pin......sadly, i do not.

oh well.....hope it's stellar.

2 mini playfields? is it going to be a wide body? this pin is looking better all the time.

I would think it would be a wide-body with all the toys, but if you look closely at the front art work it doesn't look like a wide body. There would be more space between the coin door and the side edges.

Anybody know if Jack has said anything?

Im pretty sure we are turning down the Distribution option at this point. The margins arent there.

This tells a lot about why some of these innovations haven't been done prior to this. The margins are already pretty thin on pinball. By ramping up the costs, you're cutting into that margin unless you think people will pay $10k for a nib pin.

That pretty much sums it up. In all honesty we would have probably just rode it out a little bit but everytime we called and left a VM or sent a reply e-mail we never got a response. We get scared quick when it comes to a lack of communication and if someone is lobbying us to be a distributor and wont reply or respond to any questions then we will just stay away.

The first upper playfield on the right side is Munchkinland which will have Dorothy's House. The playfield has one flipper and as you hit the ball on the ramp shot, the ball travels counter clock-wise around the Dorothy's house causing it to spin.

One of the toys in the game is a Flying Monkey that will swoop down and capture a ball (Dorothy) and bring it back to the upper playfield now known as The Witch's Castle. This playfield is on the left rear of the game. This playfield also has one flipper and you must complete a target sequence to release the captive ball (Dorothy) Next week we will tell you how you get up to both of these upper playfields

Its gona have flying monkeys!
