Finally removed my bezel and am going to clean off the accumulated 20 years of dust.

Is it safe to use windex on the monitor glass? I would use it on a regular tv but wanted to make sure I'd be safe to use it on my Sanyo EZV.

There might be better stuff to use, but I have windex.

If it has a layer of cigarette tar on it, Windex is next to useless, but it won't hurt to try it. A well-wrung out hot soapy rag would be better. 409 cuts smoke haze easily, I use it all the time on monitors. Fantastik will make runs in some painted surfaces. Any harsh cleaner can peel the paint off some bezels. Whatever you use, just don't spray or drip it onto the electronic components.

When using windex, you will find that there are different kinds, and that some of them will leave streaks on your monitor tube and glass. The most recent version that i have used is the windex brand that says "powerized" on it, and it does not streak. Using a cheap off-brand non-windex cleaner will almost certainly leave you with streaks...

Heh, I've used cheap "Windex" for the past 10 years and with a tiny bit more elbow grease(and towels), it does the job well and I've never "hurt" anything. YMMV.

I've had excellent luck with Tuff Stuff (available at any auto parts place, and probably a million other places)...big yellow and red aerosol can with yellow top.

Well, I used cheap store brand "windex" and it did the trick. Sprayed it onto paper towel and wiped away all the nasty dust crud. I have to say it made a huge difference. The game screen looks much brighter and sharper now. It's funny though, that when I got rid of the dust I discovered some slight DK Junior burn in that I hadn't noticed before. You can't see it when playing the game, but it is there.

If it's really caked on, those purple cleaners work well. Purple Power is one of them I think. You have to be careful with that stuff though. If you leave it on the glass for too long it will etch the glass. Just a few seconds is usually enough. Then use regular windex after to get any additional residual crap.

One thing you should note, is that if you're cleaning something that is GLASS that has artwork on it, you should avoid getting the artwork moist. Doing so may cause the art to flake/lift off.
