Hello there! I'm not here, and new to the world of repairing game machines. I started assisting a local arcade with their IT issues and - because there were no local game techs and I'm a mildly handy guy - I started fixing their games too. I've had success with most stuff, but there's still things that are over my head.

They have a set of Willy Wonka coin pusher games, and one of the screens is throwing up an error that it can't detect the IO board. Now, I'm hoping to receive further game tech training soon, but in the meantime I'm fixing what I can. Does this tend to be a straight-up replacement of said IO board? Might it be something else? If I need a new board, is this referring to the motherboard its self or is there another breakout board somewhere else I'm not thinking of? Where would I obtain a replacement?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I designed the board.

Turn the machine off, swap the IO boards between the 2 stations and
turn it back on. If the error follows the board, then the board is the
problem. If the error comes up on the same station with a different
board then the 12 volt fuse on top of the machine is most likely blown.

Ok thanks. I'll check it out. I do notice that the board on the non-functioning side doesn't have a blinking red LED like the functioning side does

I swapped the boards and the problem did not follow the board.

I removed the fuses but they both look ok to me... I'll try swapping them...

Edit: I swapped the fuses and everything is still the same

When you power on the machine if you look through the
side of the board you should be able to see 2 LEDS. One is
blinking and the other is solid then the board is getting power.
The solid LED means the board is plugged into the computer through
the USB cable. The blinking LED is the CPU. The blinking LED turns solid
when the board links up once the game starts running.

If you don't see the blinking LED then you need to check the power
going into the board. The upper left connector is the power. There are
2 rows of three pins. The 2 pins in the middle are 12 volts, the 2 pins
on the right are 24 volts. If there is no 12 volts the board will not power up.

As the problem stayed in the same station with the board swap
I suspect you are not getting power to the board or the USB cable
may be unplugged from the computer.

I measured 12 and 24 on the connector.

D102 led by the USB cable is solid. D101 is not lit

The io board is capable of powering the card reader on the front of the machine, and the motherboard seems to have power as well. The lights in the cabinet are out though

Ok I have no idea what's going on here. I moved the coin hooper a bit and now the CPU light is blinking... Now the game works again. What on earth does that mean?

Broken wire in the harness. Sometimes they get pinched by the front cabinet door or there's a short in the hopper harness cutting the 12 volts to the io board.

if it happens again I'll try to chase down where the short is. I hate those transient, needle-in-haystack kind of issues :D

Thanks for your help!
