I recently was given an Asteroids (for free!) that is in really good shape but could still use a little TLC. It looks to be mostly original except that it has a Willis CPO on it. I would imagine this was put in place at some point due to the original silk screen being damaged.

So since the Willis CPO is in great shape, should I keep it on there or try to restore the original?

I know there are CPO's for sale that look like the original silk screen, but I would think an "original" Willis would be more appealing than a repro CPO.

Does anyone offer silk screening services for Asteroids?

Opinions?

I hate that Willis CPO for Asteroids, I'd replace that eyesore quick.

I totally agree with this , however I feel just the opposite about AD - the Willis version is far superior imho .

The only good repro for asteroids was done by takeman and i doubt he has any left. I'm biased, but I'd leave it. It may be ugly but it tells a story and willis was a great company back in the day.

Shouldn't you be off hunting bears?

The Asteroids Willis CPO is a poor design that does not match the original Atari art or color scheme. So, I'd trash it. The OP may come to like it. Who knows?

The Asteroids Deluxe CPO is pretty good. But some of us prefer original art. YMMV

And yes, Takeman repros are awesome. Wish I had one of his Asteroids CPs (silkscreened). :(

yup the willis asteroids cpo is horrible, they made some really cool over-lays so why did this one turn out so bad? nothing about it resembles anything one would associate with blowing the crap out of asteroids in outer-space

I like the idea of the stencils, but they're out of stock... Plus, would paint hold up as well as silk screening?

Maybe I'll just get a CPO with the original design on it. Any suggestions on where to find a good quality one?

When that lady put the Asteroids on for CL for free she said it wasn't working - did you get it fixed? What was it? Nice score BTW...

Thanks. I honestly haven't even had time to plug it in yet, but it's in great shape.

She said her husband passed away around 10 years ago and he bought the game to restore with his dad but never got around to it. It's complete, and I'm hoping won't be too difficult to fix.

The last one got under similar circumstances (the guy didn't know anything about the game other than it "didn't work") just needed the switch on top of the game turned on. The guy didn't even know it was up there!...

Maybe I'll get lucky!

I had a cp with a very good condition willis and it just bothered me. I was lucky that takeman still had a few left as I was late to placing the order. His cp are fantastic. He did a great job. No way you can duplicate or even come close with paint and stencils. Well at least I can't. Maybe those with better skills.
