So I've recently regained my interest in arcade games. I've had a Stargate project in storage for about 9 years. I just started working on it again :) I will get pictures of the cabinet soon. I just took off the control panel last night and started working on it.

In regards to the control panel, here's what I started with, the game was converted to Black Tiger.

Button holes were patched but seems to be 95% intact!

Got the overlay off with a heat gun.

Now to get rid of the glue and unplug those holes! Here, it is a couple hours later after using lots of lacquer thinner and after drilling out the holes. Some of the patches actually popped right out without drilling.

Thanks for looking, more to come!

I had a Lotto Fun board set, that I acquired for this project a long time ago. Lotto Fun uses Williams Bubbles boards. Bubbles boards are capable of running Stargate with the proper eproms. Earlier this week, I erased the crappy Lotto Fun eproms and wrote the Stargate roms. I tested the boards out in my Joust cabinet below. It worked great!

Got some work done on the control panel today, plugged the converted holes with dowels. Did a little bondo work to the panel as well. Control panel needs some more work but I should be able to get Kilz on it this week and the overlay. Last week, I acquired all the parts I'll need to complete the control panel (buttons, joystick, leaf switches, overlay, etc)

Also, got a few pictures of the cab I'll be restoring...isn't she lovely? It was painted all black. I tried stripping the paint a while back, in hopes of salvaging the artwork, but it's a no go.

Awesome! This game is amazing and doesn't get the love it deserves!

Pictures of the holes being filled with dowels, then drilling and counter-boring the button hole. Still needs a little bit of bondo.

Agreed.

The controls can be intimidating at first but once you get that down it is a blast to play.

I also have one of these that is very crunchy. Needs all kinds of work.

I'll be watching this thread with great interest.

So I got some work done on the control panel. Patched a few remaining spots with Bondo, rock hard wood putty, and sanded it with an oribital disc sander using 220 grit. Spray painted it with Kilz sealer/primer, then painted the back and edges with some flat black. Painted about 1/4" of the top edge flat black, just in case some showed around the overlay. Sanded lightly between a few coats.

Got the overlay on, buttons installed, and leaf switches. I didn't have the original williams leaf switches and bob roberts was out of stock. He sold me the ones pictured and stated that people were able to get them to work. The plastic is shorter vertically and the metal leaf switch is shorter horizontally. So they need to be mounted in new spots, and wood shims/washers were used to give them the necessary height.

I have the joystick for this, but I'm waiting on some dust washers before installation.

Following this thread! you are doing some awesome work on a sweet game! I'm actually getting ready to post my stargate restore process on here too, its great to see another one getting the love it deserves. Keep up the hard work my friend!

Got some work done on Stargate last night. Installed my joystick. I used the rebuild kit from arcade shop + a NOS stick from a member on here. Wired up the control panel as well as the main control panel harness. Mounted it in my joust for testing, threw the stargate boards in too. Everything worked great first try, except I had the up and down wires reversed on the joystick. Resoldered them and it was good as gold! Tested it out and played a few games :) My stargate boards are throwing rom errors occasionally but wiggling the ribbon cable fixes it. Definitely going to need to replace the ribbon cable. Next up is going to be cabinet restoration!
