Bolt Heads

Stage the bolt heads and speaker grille for black. I like to punch holes in a box for this. Let them dry for 24 hours before handling.

Backplane Corrosion

There are two backplanes that were, in my case, corroded. I clean them up with DA and a rag and then primered and painted silver.

Also stripped and primered the rear handle and door hinge.

Coin Doors - 1

There is something very satisfying about sand blasting a coin door. Twice the satisfaction for SG; both doors shown after paint was removed.

Coin Doors - 3

After metallic black coats. I like to rest stuff for spray paint on wax paper to avoid sticking.

Front

Old plywood is hard to work with because of planking (visible grain gaps). All areas of the cab show this but there is only so much you can do to hide it within reason and without a TON of work. Here's the front (shot with Laytex Enamel Black). Buy pre-mixed black (I like Lowe's Valspar Brand Semi-Gloss Black $9/qt but well worth it); don't let the bafoon at the home center try to mix black for you.

Wow, that turned out just awesome. Looks factory fresh!
What color/brand did you use for the maroon? Oil base or Water Base paint?
How did you shoot the paint? Did you use a HVLP or Airless sprayer?

Sorry for the million questions, I'd love to refinish my Stargate and achieve the results that you did.

I love Stargate. I miss mine. It was one of the first games I got and I was foolish and sold it. I do not remember why. I made $500 on the deal but I really should have kept it. It was nice and minty, too.
