Stargate Cabinet - Before

Here is the cab before. The initials "ME + TD" were scratched in it; TD being my brother's initials. Makes me wonder if this game is traceable to him back in the day!!!

Note the chipped plywood at the bottom of the cab. Filled these areas with Bondo.

Chipped Plywood Repair - 4

Here is the result after primer and paint. Not perfect, but far better.

Cabinet Strip and Prep - 2

Use water base primer; shoot cab inside and out.

I prefer to do a light primer on the first pass which brings out more scratches, etc., do another round of fill and sand, then primer again.

Image shows the in-between primer coats.

Cabinet Strip and Prep - 3

After four coats of red. Concern at this point; the base looks too "rosy" and not like the classic Stargate Maroon. It's a match, but in the end having the black and gold over it makes it appear much darker.

Black Stencil -1

I like to tape off stencils / decals 2/3 from the end, and start on the short end. Below is the tapeoff for black with some of the backing peeled back.

Smooth out the stencil from side to side, taking time to insure all bubbles are purged from under the stencil.

By the way, this is from gamestencils.com; that guy really knows his stuff.

Peel off the masking; keeping the masking at as close to 180 degrees during the peel to avoid separating the stencil from the cab.

I like to take a clean rag and press every stencil edge to the cab to insure adhesion prior to the squirt. Also, I take a lightly wet rag with DA and go over the entire surface to be painted to insure any fingerprint / dirt / oil is removed for good adhesion.

After shooting the black. Note that I always shoot the inside of the cabinet black so that the wood is more permanently preserved.

Control Panel - Post Buff

Gotta love how Williams did the CP. Buffed with some Novice 2 and installed Bob's button kit.
