Hello, my first post and I hope someone can offer some ideas. Heres the rundown.
Stargate ;4164 with the adapter, newer Happ power supply, new battery holder.
Ram/Rom, monitor, sound and buttons/switches passes everytime I run the extended tests from the coin door. No errors on anything and the game plays fine with the "zero" on the Rom card.
...except....Player two never worked, traced the button, leaf switch, wiring harness, all checked out. I then "jumped" the ground (orange/blk stripe wire) to another and it worked!
...and now...
For player two, it flips upside down, as if it was a cocktail cabinet. Now when I go through the coin-door settings, it scrolls to the bottom choices and will not stop at any setting for me to change such as level of difficulty, men needed to warp, etc. It is as if the joystick was being held down. In fact as the game starts play, the "Defender" craft goes to the bottom unless I make as effort to push the joystick up for flight. I can give more info to whatever questions you may have! Bought this used a few years back and the player two was something I didn't mess with till now. Kinda hard for a challenge when it only played as 1 player only.
Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the Power On Self Tests (POST) can't test the I/O card and it sounds like your I/O card is having some issues.

Unlug the connectors on the I/O card. Go into the diagnostics to the switch test. If you see any of the switches showing (ignore the Up Down switch if it shows up, it is on the PIA located on the ROM card and doesn't count here). Take a jumper cable from Pin 10 on 3J3 (this is the pin closest to the ribbon cable) and touch it to each of the other pins. You should see the messages light up when you touch the following pins:
3J3-1 - Fire #1
3J3-2 - Thrust #2
3J3-3 - Smart Bomb #1
3J3-4 - Hyperspace #1
3J3-5 - 2 Player Start
3J3-6 - 1 Player Start
3J3-7 - Reverse #1
3J3-8 - Down #1
3J3-9 - Inviso #1
3J3-10 - Ground

3J2-1 - Up #1
3J2-2 - Fire #2
3J2-3 - Thrust #2
3J2-4 - Smart Bomb #2
3J2-5 - Hyper space #2
3J2-6 - Inviso #2
3J2-7 - Reverse #2
3J2-8 - Down #2
3J2-9 - Up #2
3J2-10 - Ground

If you are not seeing these, the I/O card needs to be repaired. You might also want to try unplugging the I/O card and replugging it in. Also unplugging and replugging the control panel connector might help.

Did the OP ever find a solution?

I found this post looking for something else, but is it possible that the widget board is simply jumpered for a cocktail. If there is only one control panel, and it's jumpered for a cocktail (which it sounds like it is, flipping screen, W1 broken), then when player 2 is up, the game will be looking for input from a second control panel.

If he never played a 2-player game until now, he wouldn't have noticed this.

If he did, he never reported back. As you can see, at this time, his message count is still 1. So he posed the question and ran away.
