This may be a silly question, but has anyone compared the sound quality of the 25w arcadeshop.com VS. an original 3w Williams speaker?

Arcadeshop: 4ohm 25watt 6" speaker
Original Williams: 4ohm 3watt 6" speaker

I read somewhere that a higher watt speaker can/will sound bad for a game rated for lower watts

I also read how the original williams speaker cones dry out / rot; and can cause sound quality-issues also

I'm probably going to end up buying a few off arcade shop anyways, just curious

The wattage number is the amount of power the speaker can handle; not what is needed to drive it.

For your quoted "3W" for the WMS speaker. I'm sure the speaker is spec'd for more than 3W. But 3W (or more) is what the sound amp can provide from the WMS sound board. A TDA2002 amp can provide 10W into 2ohms and 6.5W into 4 ohms. Compatible with impedances just under 2ohm.

Now, speaker fidelity, is another contentious point. In general, newer speakers probably sound better than 40 year old ones. But given the limited frequency range from an arcade game PCB, it probably is irrelevant. YMMV

And don't get me started on SHIELED vs NON-SHIELDED. LOL

Want more BASS, add a subwoofer. :)

So changing topics to the Williams Cocktail machine speakers.

Looking for the specs for 90 intervox s400s3 8 ohm speaker 4" speakers, the williams cocktail I have uses two (4"x4")

I found a similar speaker s400sA
However it is only a 1 watt... which seems too low based off what you said

Only other thread I found about this topic:
Sounds like I am looking for a shielded speaker?
