Williams ROM chips in wrong position, game still works

I have a williams game , stargate, and according to the manual the rom chips 1 thru 12 should be placed in order..1,2,3 then 4,5,6, the 7,8,9 the 10, 11, 12

Well the 10, 11, 12 on mine are 12, 11, 10 and the game still works perfectly.

How can that be?

I believe they're all like that. On some of the other rom boards (defender, etc.) it's like 123, 456, 101112, 789 which is really crazy

that's the layout I'm familiar with lol. the bottom rows being switched around.

in fact when I saw the thread title I thought the wrong way cited was actually the order they were supposed to go in.
