A member sold me a Williams Power Supply recently to go in to my Stargate. Unfortunately, the PS that arrived didn't look like the one in the Stargate which looks like this:

PowerSupply.jpg

What was sent looks more like a Williams pinball PS...there is a huge heatsink up top and a smaller one caddy-corner from it. There is also only 3 headers instead of 4.

Is there a way to adapt to this PS? I looked for a pic online but I can't find one exactly like it. The part # is 5773-09474-03

EDIT: Here is a picture I just took of the PS I have...

Looking at the new PS vs the "old" one... it appears that extra connector on the "old" one goes to the transistor attached the big ass heat sink that is off the board on the "old" one but on board on the "new" one.

Can someone verify if my assumption is correct?

Why not just fix the old one. They are a pretty simple design.

Edit, and it does look like your assumptions are correct about the connectors, but I think some sort of schematic verification shoud be done.

Welp, aside from the fact I bought this here other PS, my original is hacked up in a number of locations... This one looks really nice and clean. If I can use it, great! If I can't, then I guess I'll be looking at option (B) which would entail rebuilding the hacked one I have.

I believe the 1st picture is the "newer" model. The extra connector is for a separate heat sink that has the 2 Transistors on them.

I may know where there are some of these...

I'll take you up on that Bobn IF this one won't work. I have a sneaky suspicion it will work, but I'd like to get a confirmation before I go plugging crap in.

Hell, if anyone has the pinouts for the this newer supply and/or the older one, please link `em!

The 2nd power supply is the original one for Defender/Stargate. The first PS is the "updated" one used later.

You should have no problem plugging the 2nd one into your Stargate, as the 4th connector only goes to that heat sink. Just remove the heat sink with the other power supply, then plug your three connectors into the new (older) PS...

Unfortunately, if you look, the terminal at the top right side of the bottom photo (the new-old PS) is 3 pins smaller than the same terminal on the old-newer style power supply (the bottom right terminal in the 1st photo above). Now, it's keyed, and when i put the connector up to the power supply correctly with the key aligning, there are 3 wires from the connector hanging off the end of the terminal...

...that can't be right, can it?

Does anyone have the pinout for both these supplies? I really don't want to destroy the PS or boardset.

The other terminals appear identical... the one in question is the AC in terminal/connector from the ISO...

EDIT: I found the pinouts for the "older" version power supply (3 connectors)... still looking for the newer version pinout...

I'm pretty sure that's fine. i seem to remember having that problem before and it working just fine. besides, how could NOT hooking up wires blow up your board? At the worst, it just wouldn't start up.

The overhanging wires are the 6.3VAC wires, that aren't needed at that connector for the 2nd power supply.

Here are the pinouts of the two.

:D

Unfortunately the damn marquee ballast is shot...taking with it another brand new $6.50 florescent lamp.

...another trip to the Depot I guess...

Thanks all!

If your in need of an older style working power supply like you had I have one I pulled from a working cab you can have it for free just let me know.

No need now... thank you though! This PS is working fine.

Nobody ever listens when I tell them that Stargates used both power supplies. You can use either one, as Frizz found out. Early production Stargates used the one with the transistors on the board (same as late production Defenders). Late production Stargates used the same PS board as Joust & Robotron and beyond.

The major difference is that the Defender/Stargate PS lacks the over voltage protection circuit that is in the Robotron PS. Which is why there was a seperate board supplied with the Stargates to provide that over voltage protection. It helps to prevent frying the MPU board if the voltage regulator goes out and jacks the voltage up to 20 volts.
