A few years back I rebuilt the PS in my Defender cab. I ordered all of the replacement parts off Mouser. It has been running great since. I have another PS I need to rebuild and this time I ordered a kit from Bob Roberts. I needed some other parts and it was convenient. But I noticed that it does not include everything I replaced on the previous PS, most notably the giant cap. I forget its nick. I know there is one called bib blue but this one is usually yellow so big yellow? :)

Anyway, I thought I remembered reading that you should always replace this cap when doing a rebuild so when it wasn;t included in the kit it made me sort of scratch my head so to speak.

I guess I don't want to replace what I don't need to but looking for your opinions.

So far I haven't seen that cap fail yet. I done a few of the complete power supply rebuild kits and they always worked great. (so far, quickly knocks on wood) :)

In my 40 years plus of experience, big caps last pretty well, little ones go "pop".

Check carefully on the ends of the big capacitor. If they are bulging or cracked then replace the capacitor (www.greatplainselectronics.com is the only plce I know of to get an exact replacement). If you have an ESR meter, you can test it.
