I recently bought a non-working game from a private owner who had very little info about it. The game powered up but did not run. I troubleshot it and found the boards were bad, so I sent them all out for repair. When I got them back and installed them, I was able to get the game to play, but there are some quirks that I don't know enough about to figure out. Please keep in mind that I know very limited amounts about machines as I just started getting into them.

The issues as they stand.

First, the rollovers at the top, numbered 1-5. If the ball rolls over the number 1, and no lights are lit, it lights up 1 AND 5. Also, if it rolls over 5 and the lights are out, it lights up 1 and 5. Not sure it there's a wire crossed or something.

Second, the right center drop target (labeled B) seems to be switched with the top 2 drop targets in the right bank. Let me explain that. When you hit the B target, it can only be reset by a rollover switched that says "Raises B". The right side bank of 4 resets when all are down. Instead, on my game, if all 4 drop targets are down, only the bottom 2 reset AND the B target resets. The top 2 targets in the bank will only reset if I rollover a switch that "Raises B". It seems like the coils may have been swapped or something, but I'm hesitant to swap them since they are different voltages.

Third, the top left pop bumper doesn't make sound or score.

Fourth, the right slingshot doesn't make sound or score.

Fifth, neither of the right side outlane rollovers work.

Apart from those, everything else scores and sounds. I'm relatively sure I found all the scoring/function issues, as I've been playing the shit out of this game.

Anyways, any knowledge you may have that can help would be greatly appreciated. I'm guessing most of it is bad switches, but i wanna be sure before I start tinkering around in there.

Thanks!

I've read that guide already, and while that guide does help a bit for some of the issues, such as the rollovers, the drop target issues and pop bumper/slingshot ones are very game-specific, making it harder to figure out. I was hoping someone would have more information than i've found in articles so far. Thanks for the reply.

Have you checked the switches that don't work/score to make sure that they have a diode on the switch stack? If the diodes or bad or missing, this could cause some of the other oddities you are seeing in your switch matrix.

Get those switches working first and then you can determine if you have a larger problem in the switch matrix.

You may also need to rebuild the connector from the playfield that connects to the board, I had an issue on a Blackout where a whole series of things wouldn't work and it was because the pins in the connector were old and tired.

OK, so the pop bumper problem was the switch. I adjusted it and it works fine now. The rollovers and slingshot might be the switches or whatever they lead to, I'm still working that out but on the right track.

My big question now is the deal with the coils for the drop targets. Can I just switch the wires? I know I can't swap the coils cuz they're different part numbers. Not sure what else I can do about that. Anyone have any ideas?

That machines uses the same coils for the drop target banks...if yours has different part numbers then 1 or all are wrong.Check the manual.

Sure enough, I pored through the manual (I'm rather new to this) and finally found the part numbers for the coils. The 2 single drop target coils are wrong. They're 850's instead of 900's. Can that cause me to blow the solenoid fuse? Anyways, I'm gonna order replacements for them, but my other question still stands. Do I just swap those coils since they're apparently swapped as far as functionality goes? I'm assuming yes, but I'd rather have a more informed opinion than mine. Thanks to all who have replied and will reply, btw. I greatly appreciate your help and knowledge.

So I ran the solenoid diagnostics and sure enough the coils had been switched at some point before I got it. I swapped them back, and changed out the 850 for a 900, and it works great. Now I just need to get some replacement switches for the slingshot and rollovers and I should be at near 100%, apart from a few light sockets that are bad.
