I recently picked up a Jokerz in great shape, but the speech cracks up and sound like crap, the music and other sounds are fine. The previous owner had the eproms reburned and amps replaced, no change. Could this be as simple as worn out factory speakers? I listened and found that the scratchy speech comes out of both the 6.5" and 4" speakers in the backboard.. If it is speakers, I'm just going to grab a set of Pioneer 6.5" etc off amazon..

Thanks..

all kinds of screwy things can happen when there is a bad capacitor in a circuit, there

without a schematic in front of me to see which one to point you in first, i'd use my ESR meter and test them all and see if one or more come up bad

There are 3 caps next to u23 c29 c26 c24. I changed these out and resoldered the connectors on the sound board. Then rebuilt the power connector on the power supply, 12vdc, ground 5vdc. IIRC the connector on the left side of p/s. New male header and .156 pins.

One other thing make sure all the screws are used on the sound board as well as the cpu.

Um.... So you had the same issue? If so, this solved it?

For the most part, it made a definite improvement. I should state u23 on the cpu board.
Jokerz! was the only pin to use this style sound board.

If the other sounds are fine and only the speech is bad, after you have tried everything else, and I hope one of them works, you will probally end up replacing U5. This is a hard chip to find but they are out there. Let me know if it comes to this, I had the same problem recently with a Highspeed, and that chip fixed it.
