Williams: Jamma to Stargate adapter

I'm interested depending on price.
Currently just to print the cards.. it cost me about $14 US per card. I may get better pricing from some other vendors but so far PCBWAY has got most beat. I will post again once I get em in and run a burn test with them.

I was able to make all the corrections before processing so hopefully we will see a full production style product.

I had been looking for a way to be able to plug a Joust board set into a Jamma cabinet would this board make this happen for me? I know you mention for a test bench etc. I have a Joust cabinet that was converted into a Jamma machine and I am running a Jrok board in it now and it is my multi-williams cab. It would be cool to be able to plug an original board set in it I wanted too though.

I know you can get a repro harness and I could put it back to a pure Joust if I wanted...but I kinda like having all the multi-williams games in one machine. Being able to plug a real Joust board set in would be like having my cake and eating it too.

I saw that and understood it doing the opposite of what I wanted. That is something that allows you to plug a Jamma board into a Williams cabinet is how it reads...or at least how I parse it.
yeah I get it. So when you say your Joust cabinet was converted to Jamma. Was the original wiring replaced with Jamma wiring as well? Or is the original harness still in there?

I got the cab ages ago and it had been converted into a Taito Final Blow. It looks like a Joust again minus the stenciled side art and I have a Jrok in the machine. Since the control panel had 8-ways in it from the conversion I kept it that way since robotron is a super fun game and it is not like I was destroying a survivor or anything.

the original harness was hacked/replaced, it did not even have the old power supply etc left in it. It was a kinda suspect so I just put in a new jamma harness and called it a day. The smaller metal panel on the side is still in the cab but the larger one the boards mount to on the door was removed too.

So I have since just accepted the wiring of the cabinet will not be original. However If I could still play the original board set that would be pretty cool and I would try to make that happen if possible.

I think it would work for such a thing.. I have the Multi-Williams Cab with LED conversion still havent got the side art yet..
The adapter will have some additional functionality for working with other Williams series Mcus IE, Bubbles,Robotron,Stargate and defender.. If you have a couple 8way joys and a 4 or 6 button setup on the panel then you could
essentially have an option to play any of the ones I mentioned.
I created it out of need for my bench since I work on any of those MCUs.. I have a bunch that still need work and did not like dragging out a cabinet and panel just to verify everything worked as needed.

I hope to have these new ones in a couple weeks if all goes well.. I will Post an update and provide info on how to get one.

Sounds great. I will have to keep my eye on how it turns out as it sounds like something I would like to get.

nice job ! Has anyone tried to put the 8 pin female molex pair from the RoboTron sticks into the stargate adapter interface to see if RoboTron works that way without having to go into the Multi Williams mode?As mentioned in the jrok wsf manual a defender is a stargate , just the io wires are flipped.Pretty easy to add invs o to a defender . Im thinking of making a separate c p o so I can play RoboTron without having to make the multiwilliams button mess .

For anyone still watching this thread... I have gone through a couple more renditions of the PCB I have been working on.. The last one tested ok with a few tweaks... Had a lot going on at work and home...
I have another batch of these on its way.. Let me know what ya think and if it may be a good tool for the bench top test area.

The idea here is to have a nice bench top interface for your Jamma harness so its not necessary to have a Cabinet ready harness just service the old williams MCU,Rom,Sound and interface cards.
I did this out of necessity because I have a complete jamma harness with 6 button configuration to interface the controls, speaker and video all setup with testing points all of which are in arms reach on the bench.
Special thank you to SNESNESCUBE64 for the Jamma connector footprint..
I would be interested in one of these boards. I just got my hands on a Williams Robotron set of boards and this would be quite helpful to use with my jamma harnessed bench test rig.

I enjoy fixing Williams boardsets, so this adapter is exactly what I need. My homemade harness pails in comparison.

Just an update... I got my new pcb prototypes in the other day and I assembled one of them for testing... hopefully will be able to know something by the weekend..
on another note I am working on another solution for replacing those old 4164 ICs.. I will post here once I have a well laid out pcb to show off.. Those chips are becoming harder to find in bulk without giving an arm and leg for em.
