I've read that originally, the Duramolds had the issue of curing over time, which resulted in shrinkage, and that the monitor could - and apparently did - pop out. Like jump out of the cabinet?

Is this true? And if so, what was done to make them servicable (as there are owners of them, here I'm sure) ?

My understanding is that there was only 1 occasion when a monitor took the leap of faith (into a DK jr., no loss :D *flaming in 3...2...1...). Beyond that the biggest issue beyond that were tight coin doors for operators to open. Never heard of any fixes.

Having just gotten a Duramold and in the process of restoring it back to a Sinistar. I am rather interested in this. I do not know all that much about these cabs to be honest, i just fell in love with the cabs look.
So the monitor just shot out of the front of the game? Crazy!

Eugene Jarvis himself said he saw this happen (the monitor flying out of the cab). Too lazy to try and find the interview this came from though.

I just purchased a Duramold as well, and was asked if the coin door was easy to open.
I havent seen any evidence of shrinkage and my coin door opens fine but the bottom door is suspiciously no longer attached

The story that I heard was that in one location, the bezel cracked and fell out. The monitor was fine. But in the telling of the story over and over again, the minnow became a whale.

There was some shrinkage in the cabinets due to heat, as you would expect with any polyuethane based product. For an example, take your disposable plastic water bottle and fill it with really hot water (like out of the hot water faucet from a commersial coffee pot). It will shrink. The same thing happens with the Duramolds. The one that cracked the bezel was supposedly placed directly under the hot air vent in an arcade.

It was siezed on as a way to squeeze Williams for either a new game or a 1:1 trade in for the Duramold game (once it stopped earning, of course).

Edit: By now, I am pretty sure any shrinkage is done with.

Funny you mention this, when i got my duramold, I took it to the carwash to clean out a mouse nest.....just sprayed it down

noticed the monitor mount tabs were kind of bent/warped. Anyhow, installed new monitor and it was fine, kind of slighlty took proper shape with it installed... but I did read this phenomenon somewhere and as mentioned before, this stuff cured after a bit im sure, no way you would need to worry bout it now...

Aren't the monitors BOLTED in?!?

I can only imagine anything popping out due to shrinkage if it was a friction fit, and anything destined for a public arcade would NOT be designed that way. (How long would a snap together machine last in the field? ;) )

Anyone knowing how an arcade game is assembled wouldn't believe that story, simply by thinking about it for a bit.

Yea there bolted in, on brackets to the plastic, the myth was that when the plastic cured, it twisted and shot the fuqer out the front, some said frame and all, point is, who gives a hoot now, its not somthing to be worried about.. that plastic has cured

Cool - yours was a Sinistar?

Aren't those extremely rare?

I think all Duramolds are somewhat rare, I havent found any actual production numbers, but have been led to believe that they made more Sinistars than Blaster, but thats just what I have been told. Bubbles on the other hand I know absolutely nothing about

Anybody have a credible source on production numbers of these things?

Hi there, unfortunately no, my cab started out life as a Blaster - It has the dual speaker holes and the W in a circle on each side of the Williams on the front.

I looked at what games came in these awesome cabinets and decided i would make it a Sinistar as thats my #1 must get Grail game right now.
It was already converted when i bought the game to Vigilante, luckily for me they didnt hack it up bad.
I have ordered a NEW AC & DC Wiring harness and CP Harness along with all the boards I needed working from Dokert. And just got my 49 way optical joystick in the mail.
I figure might as well make it my grail. :)
