Williams "Darling" Pinball question from a newbie

I have a willaims "Darling" PB. I really like the EM pinballs. OK, today when I use the flippers, it sounds like the machine cycles like the play is over. In fact if I push the button many times for the flipper, it will even go from one ball to the next (I was playing on the third ball, after using the flippers, it went to the 4th then 5th).

Any suggestions? I hope I explained the problem correctly.

Any suggestions on where to start

OK, I am new to this. Is there any repair books I should start with?

Thanks for suggestions

You're probably going to have to go through and clean and adjust the contacts and switches. check the ball count stepper unit. It could be any number of things More than likely something is shorting out and causing the ball count unit to advance when the flipper is hit. Could be something to do with the outhole switch to where when you hit the flipper it shorts the outhole switch making the game think the ball has left the playfield and thus causing it to advance to the next ball. One time I had a relay switch shorting out and it would cause the fuse for the backbox lights to blow.

I have more experience with old cars, which have great repair manuals that most people can follow. I am finding out that pinball repair come with experience and not so much dumb luck.

Thanks again
