Williams Coin Door Lights with Switching Power Supplies

So the power supply in my Stargate has been overridden with a switcher. Because of this, the coin door lights no longer function. It looks like the original power supply has blown a couple fuses, so it would need some work. But I was wondering if there was a way to jerry-rig the coin door lights to work anyway?

Wire the coin door lights to the +5v and common terminals of the switching regulator power supply. Use either #44 or #47 lamps in the sockets on the door.

If you just leave the original power supply in the bottom of the cabinet it'll still run the lights, I believe they're on an ac winding off the transformer or something similar. There's one connector that the lights run through, just leave it plugged into the original supply.

Other alternative is you could cut the wires at the power supply that run to the coin door and splice them into the power wiring running over to the game board. You can run light bulbs on any of the three voltages depending on which bulbs you have in your door.

Quite frankly, when I first found the Bob Roberts schematic (posted above) a month ago it made me think I would never get my coin doors lit as it looked very complex and daunting. I chalked the three dollars I had spent on light bulbs as wasted money down the drain.

However, Ken's simple input here gave me new hope.

Ten minutes ago, tonight, my coin doors were lit for the first time since some OP converted the cab and cut the wires decades ago!

someone butchered all the wires off the transformer in my Defender. flush, no less. required a lot of homework to figure out where they all ran to. I wound up converting mine back to the power supply board. my game doesn't get any use as of late mainly because the ribbons are bad. someday.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I know its frowned upon to start multiple threads for the same topic. I too need to wire my coin door lights to my switcher but since there was no original ps when I got the game, Im not sure which connector is for the lights.

Also, should I splice with certain wires or connect them to the switcher?

Thanks, Mario.

check out the Williams guide in my signature. I have a picture of how the wires connect to a switcher.. even though I'm anti-switcher. :)
