Williams Cabs- Did they cover the lower coin door at the Factory?

Cuz I swear the lower kickplate area on this dedicated MP cab I have was covered with 1/4 plywood by an Op. Problem is, the piece was cut too precise for an Op so it almost seems factory. The only part that makes no sense from a quality control standpoint is the 1/4 'shelf' the top edge of the plywood creates. Did Williams just run out of lower coin doors and cover the bottoms with plywood? Or was this done later by an op that could measure? The lower coindoor hole, flange inset and bolt holes are all drilled/cut, but a perfectly cut piece of plywood was glued, screwed and laminated right over the top of the holes. What gives?

I think Bob Vila was an op after 'This Old House' was canceled. might explain your cabinet.

Of course pix would be helpful for those without an imagination.

Pictures please.

Well looky who it is. Yeah I guess I can snap a pic of it.

I know you missed me Phetty. No need for tears. I am saddened that you haven't brought back the sloppy mop avatar. Jow's returned to his ghetto roots....Frizz back to his think cloud.

I'm standing fast with my wtf with a mouth avatar. This is just before I back the infamous cobra command avatar (aka) up skirt goodness.

I almost called the reserve F.A.G. officers back to their stations to help look for you. Why do you keep disappearing my little Jolly Rancher?

My new avatar is supposed to move. AG, can you help me? I need you.

Sounds like non-original mod by a previous owner... How would you get the money out without the door? Maybe someone kicked it in when it was on location and this was their repair?

They shoved a plastic money basket that looks a lot like a Taito coin bucket in the upper part of the assembly to block the quarters from falling down there.

My vote is for operator or previous owner job. Wouldn't 1/4" be really easy to kick a hole through? Also, did they modify the upper coin area for a bucket to hold the coins?

OP did it. Somebody probably crowbared the lower door and he had the plywood laying around for free and didn't want to spent the $12 on a new lower coin door.

One cab that I passed on had a similar mod. The op removed the PVC tubes and put a 1 gallon plastic mop bucket under the coin mechs.

I may have a set of the PVC tubes laying around, if you need them.

I may indeed. Thank you Ken.

My Metro-Cross is in a converted Moon Patrol cab and it was missing the PVC tubes. While not original, I found replacement PVC at Home Depot in the plumbing dept. It's black, not gray like the original because I couldn't find gray PVC in the right size. Since it was a conversion anyway, I went with the black.

You would need 1 7/8" (2") PVC. Cut to 6 to 6 1/2" in length. I used Gorilla Glue to glue them in place. Gorilla Glue is awesome stuff and looks pretty close to the original glue Williams used.

I think I have a spare sets of pipes too, so just speak-up.

Remind me in a day or so if I haven't followed through. I'll try to remember to measure the pipes, so if you decide to make your own, you'll have the correct measurements.

Hot melt glue works pretty well also.

I have a set. They're yours for the shipping. PM me so I remember to dig them up tonight. I'll have to weigh them to see if there is anything cheaper to ship them in than a flat rate box.
