Saw a converted williams cabinet at a operators warehouse.. I know I have seen pictures of one before, but I cant seem to find what game it is??

I know I should have taken pictures of it, but I didnt have camera.. The sideart has a space guy standing up, maybe had a blaster in hand? metal plate above monitor says williams in big white letters?

Can anyone help me with what this cab might be?

IMO Smash TV is arguably the best game of the 90s and easily my favorite two player game eVaR! I spent a lot of time playing this one at the local arcade during the early 90's so I guess I'm a little biased ;).

Well it's not in high demand for some reason (it should be IMO!), so you're not going to make money on saving it, but if the art is nice it should definitely be saved. No one is going to create stencils for the game and 9 out of 10 have rough to okay sides at best. If the sides are fairly clean on the one you saw I say save it as most of the parts are readily available.

Afterall you just gotta love any game with two directional sticks for moving and firing (a la Robotron) :D!

The problem is that it had controls and fun like Robotron, but it (like most jamma titles) seems to be designed to suck down multiple continues.

Smash TV is a blast. I had one for the last year, and we loved it. But yeah, it suffers a bit in a home environment as you can just keep coining up, and eventually you'll win. Nobody seems to mind though! Honestly, it was one of the most popular games with my guests.

There was a converted one with sideart at the recent St. Louis superauctions. Something relatively late model was in it and it was very early in the auction, thus it went for too much to be worth dealing with.

And you can thank Shigeru Miyamoto for that. He designed Sheriff which was the first dual-control 8-way shooter, inspiring Jarvis' titles ;)

I never knew that. Thanks for posting :)

I've played it by myself before, but truly the game is best for folks who have parties or others to play with. The fun factor for two players is really off the charts, but it's definitely not the same playing it by yourself. Perhaps that's because I never really played it in the arcade without my good buddy back then.
