Greetings all,
I have a 1976 Williams Blue Chip EM that's driving me nuts. The score motor runs non-stop. All the score reels are resetting to zero. All switch stacks in the machine have been tightened and checked for making contact. No wires off anywhere in the game. Any ideas?
I do not have a schematic. Anyone have a pdf you could send? Trying to get it working for a halloween party.

Be sure that all the stepper units are reseting to the zero/home position also. And just go through and clean up those relay switches too.
 
Will do. Does anyone know if a single player machine close to that year would have the same internal setup? Thinking I could download a manual for a different machine but still use the schematic.
 
Unfortunately most EM schematics (at least the one for Blue Chip) are one page and about 5 feet long. Makes it hard to copy.

Does the motor turn as soon as you power up, or when you go to start a new game?
 
I'll take a look at mine tonight when I get home and see if there is anything obvious that would cause this. Sounds like the game thinks something isn't reset.
 
Zero position switch on score reels.

Home position on stepper units like bonus unit(s).

Anyone screwed with the coin switches? I just fixed a Williams Triple Strike that had the score motor running. The machine owner tried to do his own free play setup on it and screwed around with the coin switches. Correcting the coin switches fixed the problem.

Steve Young's Pinball Resource (www.pbresource.com) sells the manuals and schematics you need. The schematic is a long one!
 
This is from the manual. Its the sequence that happens when you start a game.


Coin relay is energized at score motor index cam switch C, thru switch on coin relay, game relay, zero switch on credit unit and credit button switch.

Switches on coin relay will energize game-over relay, reset relay, 115 volt relay bank reset coil, game relay latch coil thru wiper on ball count unit (at zero position), and pulse ball count reset and S.U. coils thru switch D on game relay.

Switches on reset relay will run score motor, pulse score reset relay thru score motor impulse cam switch, and energize bonus relay thru zero switch on bonus unit.

Switches on score reset relay will pulse 5 score drum units until they reach zero.

Switches on bonus relay will run score motor, hold reset relay in, pulse bonus unit reset coil and open circuit to outhole relay.

Bonus relay drops out when zero switch on bonus unit opens. Now when the score motor reaches index position, outhole relay will energize thru another zero switch on bonus unit.

Switches on outhole relay will run score motor and energize ball release coil to propel ball toward plunger.

As you can see, there are a few different things that run the score motor until everything is reset. Basically make sure all of the scoring reels are at zero and the bonus indicator is reset.

Sometimes visually inspecting a switch is not enough. It may look closed, but if the contacts are dirty it may still read open. I usually use my meter to double check that the switches are truly closed.

Actually, it's not hard to get a good copy. I pulled the schematic for my Williams Aztec off of the IBDB & sent it as an attachment to a local printer that does blueprints. They were able to make a factory sized printout for minimal cost.
