Williams Blaster - A Good Robotron Sequel??

Sure is, but is it a good sequel???

Is it a good SEQUEL? Naw... it's so different that it doesn't even feel like sequel. Hell, no one would even KNOW it was a sequel except for the literature Williams produced indicating so.

Is it a good game? Sure... with the 49-way stick it uses it's fun... with an 8-way stick it's... OK.

I wouldn't even consider it a sequel.

The gameplay had nothing to do with the original Robotron. But they continued the storyline in this game, on the attract screen.

Loved Blaster BITD but nowadays not so much. Definitely agree with the previous post about Smash TV.

I think Blaster suffers from the same issue as other pseudo 3D titles... It is difficult to figure out your relationship to other things on the screen and it gives the gameplay an inaccurate, sloppy feel.

Robotron was all about precision movement and firing. There is never any question about what killed you. The first person layout of Blaster stripped that element away.

The concept was ahead of technology, maybe if it came out in the late 80's it would have been better implemented.

I could NEVER get into that game, which is why I sold the Mint duramold model that I had so many years ago. They tried REALLY hard to make a 3D game using individually drawn sprites, but it really didn't turn out as they had hoped. Yet another example of a game that didn't sell well because it wasn't really a "good" game to play...

It was and it came out in 1985, it was called Space Harrier. :)

Blaster is a true sequel even though the play mechanic is so different. But the object remains the same: destroy evil, save the humans. Blaster is great, would love to snag a dedicated cab.

I didn't want to go there because I feel Space Harrier (as well as After Burner and Thuder Blade) still suffer from a bit of that same problem. Now that I think about it, Sega is a prime offender, because even the space levels of Zaxxon suffer from this issue and the game is from a totally different perspective. ;)

as others have said, i wouldn't really consider it a sequel. i know as the storyline goes, it is somewhat of one, but i'd say that's about it. gameplay wise it's hard as heck, at least for me. i made it to paradise once but cheated on the lowest difficulty and 10 guys or so just to see what happened, as i can never make it past the first few levels in standard settings.
