I'm working on a Blackout for a friend. The machine is in pretty decent shape--not too much acid damage as the batteries were removed before things got ugly.

Upon powerup the machine would just run the lights--no displays or any other activity. All of the voltages from the power supply tested out fine. I ended up pulling the CPU board (system 6) and replaced all of the sockets and removed the crusty battery holder. I burned a Leon's test rom and set the board up on the bench, and have blinking LEDs and the appropriate pulses on the PIA outputs.

A new interconnect for the junction between the CPU and driver boards is on its way. I'm planning on doing some testing of the driver board and CPU together (on the bench) after that arrives.

My question is this--what should I be doing to test out the playfield before putting the CPU and the driver board back into the machine? My plan is to have those two boards 100% before putting them back in. Are there tests I should be running on the solenoids/etc before I connect them to the driver board?

Thanks,

-Jude

Only thing I know is check movement of coil plungers and resistance of coils. Ohm fuses out of holders.

Thanks for the help guys. That site is a very good read--lots of great info there. I guess it's time to dust off the old Huntron Tracker and get to work!
