I have a Williams Blackout pinball machine that while playing the game sometimes the sounds are all there and then they will stop and come on again but won't stay on the whole time while playing. Could it possibly be a bad solder joint on the soundboard since it seems as if the vibration of while the game is playing may be causing it?

black knight doing something like that. reflowed solder, cleaned up connector posts. ended up being the amp chip. replaced the caps and resistor pack tied to the amp, too. never had the problem again.

The problem seems to be coming from the ribbon cable going from the speech board to the sound board. If I hold the ribbon cable just right, the sound is working fine. Is there a chance the solder joints on the back of the ribbon cable need to be re flowed?

Which one is the amp chip? Where can I get the caps and resistor pack?

The amp chip is the one in the vertical heat sink with 5 or 6 legs on the main sound board. It is a TDA2002.

Recrimp the cable connectors. www.arcadesolution.com has a tutorial on changing the cables out. Just skip down to the part about crimping the connectors in a vise.

Reflowing the pins is also a good idea while you have it apart.

I did not re do the ribbon just yet but I did re flow the back side of the pins and now it seems to be working correctly. Is the background sound supposed to be on the whole time during game play? I only hear it whenever the ball passes through one of the 3 spinner targets but it only last for 5-10 seconds.
