Ok, finally got Stargate working thanks to Ken. I realized I'm missing the harness that attaches to the coin mechs. What is this harness called so I'll know when I decided to buy? I'll be interested in 2 of them.

Man, somebody really hacked that coin door. Dockert can probably build that harness for you. I know he has a bunch of projects on his plate right now, but drop him a PM.

If you elect to do it yourself, it is not that hard. All of the information you need except the wiring lengths are in the wiring harness diagram in the schematics. The good news is that all of that was standardized across all of the Williams video games so if you can find a wiring harness for any of the games you should be able to strip the wiring that goes from the ROM board to the coin door connector. The piece from the coin door to the connector is also pretty straight forward to build.

I think the molex connectors are one of the few things left that you can buy from RadioShack. At least 6 months ago they had them. You can get by with 20 or 22 gauge wire for the switches, but you should use 18 gauge for the lights, unless you are going to replace the #44 bulbs with the LED equivalent.

Thanks folks. I'd prefer to buy an original one and not make one myself. Just to have a "real" part in it. Coin door harness, heard.

Man, somebody really hacked that coin door.

someone did the same exact shit to my Defender. they even robbed the service switch panel.

I think I still have enough wire remaining that all I'd have to do is throw the white plug on it. you have any idea what the part # is at all or what I should be looking for?

also, what do you suggest I do about the service panel? part of the trouble with diagnosing that sound problem I have is the fact I have to hotwire the friggin thing to get anywhere, and that's ridiculously difficult to do, I can't get to the Sound Test portion without those. I have an extra newer Midway one (with the 2 black and 2 red buttons) but I don't know how I'd go about reproducing the function of that like Auto Up button or whatever that's supposed to be an on/off switch, unless I just hold that button down to function as the On?

I have bought that exact switch setup for another cabinet.

All of the switches are momentary.

Thanks.

So replacing the center one with a click on/off from Radio Shack and you will have an equivalent for the 3 button Wiliams bracket .

I just finished wiring one for my Stargate. The thing was picked clean too including the service switches and bracket...

Mine (robotron) looks far worse than yours mitch, they added 2 counters, moved just the test switch to where that lil eyehook is above davefinn's 3 switch bracket, and got creative with some cardboard....

I'm hoping Dokert does start making replacement door harnesses that would be #PepsiWINNING

Cardboard is inbetween the p1 mech and the counter.

Broodwich, that looks like an Atari coin door hacked in to work in a Williams cab. You can see they bypassed the original wiring and hacked lines directly to the coin door switches.

When you go to rebuild it, you will basically need to strip all of the old wiring out and start from scratch.

I've had two Williams cabs come in with Atari doors like that and one with an old Midway door out of a PacMan or Galaga that was hacked in. It is possible to rebuild these back to full Williams coin doors. It just takes some time and patience.

is the upper white/yellowed harness williams or atari? the front (of the door) looks correct but the test button has me all confused.

the lower harness from the switches is to a konami harness, the cab was converted to yie ar kung fu. when they did this they added the counters and cardboard mod i believe but definitely correct me if i'm wrong. i know little about older machines i'm popping my cherry with this one :D

I was planning on replacing the entire harness pretty much anyways, and replacing the door (if you look under p2 mech you can see it's coming apart and rusted/pried apart ect).

The white harness is Atari. The test button on Ataris is a click on/off in one direction and momentary contact in the other (don't remember if up is click or down is click). On some, but not all Ataris there were 2 coin counters also. So it looks like the operator cut the Atari wiring harness at the spiral plastic thingy and then just wired in the pieces he needed (the coin switches and coin counters).

Actually looking at it, it looks like only the coin switches were wired in. I don't see anything going to the coin counters. It looks like they still have the small connectors and are wired into the Atari harness.

ah ok that makes sense then thanks!

so looks like i'm definitely on the hunt for a complete door now >.<

those counters are wired into the atari harness with molex's (taped to that piece of cardboard), and your correct just the coin switches were wired to the konami harness.
