Will Luna City ever have another gameday?

I thought his main complaint was that the version that showed up on the torrent wasn't the final version that was shown on Showtime? It was from an early screener, or something like that.

Maybe I'm remembering that wrong. I haven't seen it, so can't comment on the movie.

I reviewed the thread. Peter had no problem with file sharing. He had a problem with a screener being passed around. Hell I didn't even realize I was watching a screener until someone pointed it out to me after I complained about 'the art'.

Matter of fact, Peter posted this:
I actually have Joysticks on DVD (LOL!!!). Maybe I can rip it.

-Peter

Apparently the whole thing was a mis-understanding. Too bad...

The screener that was passed around included music that wasn't licensed and scenes ultimately deemed unacceptable.

Thank you to Hugh and everyone who recapped for me.

But now I have to ask a question but it might get me fired upon, but I'm asking it anyway. This shit goes on with movies all day long. There were copies of Star Wars Episode II out on the Web before the movie hit theatres. Hell I had a copy of SIGNS before it even made it to the theatre. So, is the issue that the movie got leaked by someone HERE AT KLOV? Or is it that the movie got leaked period? Maybe I'm thick but, if the movie was getting released to Showtime, it's not like it went to theatres. And I've yet to hear anything about a DVD being made of it.

I guess what I'm asking is, was he pissed about the leak itself or, the people/site WHO leaked it? Either way, although it's a shame that it happened, this happens with movies every day on the Web. If it hadn't been in this gamers' circle, it could have happened anywhere else on the InterWebs.

I haven't been to his arcade, it looked cool, but the most recent time that he had it open to the public I couldn't get away. I think it sucks though that he would close his doors in a "well take THAT!" fashion, but something tells me I'm not seeing the full picture here.

PS: Shardian's most recent post came through while I was posting this, and now I can't delete it so, that's why mine's here. I didn't want people to think I didn't read 2 posts up. :D

He was pissed that he asked for the screener not to be passed around and not only was it passed around, the link was discussed and promoted in the very same thread he asked folks not to pass it around in thereby disrespecting the guys wishes.

Now I've got it, clear as crystal- brother Frizz, I thank you.

Summary:

1. Peter assisted with making the film by contributing content
2. Movie was to be released on Showtime many missed it
3. Someone found a torrent link of the movie and shared it
4. Peter saw the posting and requested that it be taken down
5. No one listened and some individuals flaunted the fact
6. Goodbye Peter and no more gamedays

Thread:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=69417

Actually as I remember it
1. peter was involved with the film. Mainly CG content but possibly more I'm not sure.
2. there was a screener copy that was out there making the rounds behind the scenes in DVD format. Wasn't that well known to most but it was out there.
3. after years of hype a deal was finally made with showtime and Peter announced the date the movie would air. Possibly in a thread he started. Possibly in a thread someone else started asking about the film. Can't remember.
4. within the thread many were asking for a copy of the film.
5. Peter asked that people watch the movie on Showtime and I believe pointed out that once it aired on Showtime there would be no way to stop folks from recording and posting a torrent of the film.
6. The day before the Showtime release date a member here uploaded a torrent of the screener and posted a link to this site.
7. Peter saw the posting and requested that it be taken down
8. No one listened and some individuals flaunted the fact
9. Goodbye Peter and no more gamedays
10. it should be mentioned that the last game day held at Luna City that I am aware of was scheduled and happen but at the same time a family friend passed away. This may also have had some effect on why Peter has chosen to not continue hosting events.
11. another point worth mentioning is that shortly after the last game day I mention, the Luna City web site was taken down for a period of time. A couple months I believe.

Another issue that Peter probably had was that the person that initially passed out the torrent link was a moderator here. I didn't realize that before - I thought it was a low post count member that was being beligerent.

Can't say I blame the guy if a moderator provided a torrent link that as of today still stands in the thread (even if it is probably dead).

Closing his arcade to everyone due to an issue involving a handful of people doesn't make sense.

More likely he's re-evaluated his priorities in light of some things that have happened to him in real life, and maybe a building full of arcade games is not as rewarding as it once was.

Yup yours is more accurate :) That's what I get for trying to work and goof around at the same time LOL!! No one saw it at the point when the torrent was being passed around.

yes I wasn't gonna mention that fact but was aware. Although I can't remember if the member was actually a moderator at the time or became a moderator after the fact. Either way the person is currently a moderator here.

In all fairness the person in question was NOT a moderator at the time of the post.

Boy, that Chasing Ghosts thread ended with some pretty sweet 'The Saf' talk. *sigh for the old days*

I need to find that apartment building where he died and take some pics.

I bet Saf drove a green 1970 Cutlass and listened to early 70s Aerosmith before he got into the Dead.

For the record I never watched Chasing Ghosts.

The best part about this thread is that Peter was bent over someone sharing a film and yet he shared his Pac-Man cartoons liscensed by Hanna-Barbara.

FYI...Peter was in the hospital for most of last week....Im not going to go into specifics but it was to the point that if he didnt improve by this past Mon. he was to have surgury...luckily his condition did improve and he has been home since this past Mon. He also lost 10 lbs. in just a few days.....as far as another game day...well who knows except Peter.....Im just glad he is on the up swing..........
