I was fortunate enough to go last year and I know something went down to cause Peter to close up Luna City for awhile. Anyone heard from him and know if he's ever planning to do another game day?

He'll probably never post it here - the whole sharing of the Chasing Ghosts shenanigans pissed him off...

It's pretty sad if he lets the actions of 2-3 people run him off. Peter's work was amazing in the movie, and I would be happy to simply send him a few bucks directly - since I cannot actually purchase or rent the film. I can honestly say his CGI work was the only redeeming aspect of that film. It's no wonder they had so many problems getting it distributed - it kinda sucked.

Really?

I enjoyed the hell out of it. I guess maybe I led a bit of a sheltered life as a young lad, but I had no idea that Ottumwa existed and that Twin Galaxies was the official record keeper of arcade world records.

I just played the games and tried to achieve the highest scores possible, but it was all very "local".

I do remember picking up gaming magazines and seeing high scores listed in them for games I enjoyed, but the fact that kids came from all over the country to meet up, play games, compete, and be photographed for Time magazine was a shock and a surprise to me.

I really enjoyed the movie.

The same basic stuff is covered in King of Kong. Chasing Ghosts was done in a way to make all of the record holders look as bad and pathetic as possible. I feel sorry for all involved being included in the documentary. These guy's gave of their time and participated in good faith to the documentary makers. The final product shat all over the whole collective of them.

Peter did the awesome CGI work on what I believe was a contracted basis. If anything, he should be
A: Happy that there is a rabid fan base that appreciates his hard work
B: Upset like the rest of us that the producers dropped the ball in getting the movie to theaters/DVD during the window created by King of Kong

Yeah, the film completely sucked ass, Peter's work was really the only redeeming value of the film. I enjoyed it just from the Klov perspective, but as far as for the masses, this film just wasn't for them; I could definitely understand the distribution difficulties.

They should have at the very least done a digital distribution option like that fairly recent Missile Command film; I'm sure a bunch of people would actually purchase it rather than do the torrent thing. I would personally purchase it to support efforts like this, even though I was somewhat disappointed after watching it.

Thread officially hi-jacked ...

I guess I need to watch it again. The only person I thought really came out looking like a dick was the "Donkey Kong Cheater", but IMHO he did that to himself.

I guess the film did make many of them look "quirky" or "strange" but I say if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then most likey it IS a duck.

Still ... I couldn't care less if they are "quirky", "strange", or live in a trailer park in Central Florida with a closet full of spiders. The fact that they have the skill and determination to be the "best in the world" at something is still pretty impressive to me.

I can definitely see your point, though ... much like reality TV, the film did seem to focus on the "quirkiness" of the characters more than was necessary to carry the film.

Still,
I can understand being pissed but he put so much money, time, and effort into Luna City and its not fair to make the entire general public suffer because you are pissed at a few people...if anything, ban them!

It's his PERSONAL arcade. He can do what he wants with it.

Yeah it sucks that some of us local didn't get a chance to go but that's they way it is.

The dude asked folks not to the share the torrent link... in the very same post people continued to do just that instead of having the class to at least share the link privately.

As much as I want to say Peter knee-jerked... I have to agree with him... those people pulled bigtime asshole maneuvers. I wish Peter would give the forums another chance, but I certainly don't fault him for not doing so.

I think Pete's a great guy. He spent weeks trying to upload his collection of Pacman cartoons for me to download. Every time there was a snag, or compatibility issue, he'd try again, or change the format, or give me new instructions, whatever. Even though I must have seemed like a never-ending pest, he always seemed really eager to help, and he could have just ignored me or told me to piss off. His arcade is a thing of beauty, and should be shared with the public. I wish he wouldn't have run off like he did, this site could use more dudes like him. Pete, if you're out there, come home boy.

And there's a reason that BYOAC has a policy against illegal links. I don't know if its in the new policy here, but it probably should be. The offenders should have been dealt with, and thus now there is moderation capabilities to do just that.

It was indeed a punk move by a VERY small amount of people who were trying to show off the size of their e-dicks. I too wish Peter would come back. Having said that, last I knew the incident here had nothing to do with him basically shutting down luna city.

Ain't that the truth? I wouldn't want anyone I know to watch the movie because it really paints the hobby in a bad light. Who knows? Maybe we're all kidding ourselves and we're just as pathetic. ;)

Can someone explain this to me like I'm a 4-year old? I did not see the movie. This guy Peter helped provide footage for the movie, and then the producers of the movie made gamers like us look like idiots? Am I getting this right?

Or was Peter supposed to be getting paid for his time and didn't?

No comprende..

Summary:

1. Peter assisted with making the film by contributing content
2. Movie was to be released on Showtime many missed it
3. Someone found a torrent link of the movie and shared it
4. Peter saw the posting and requested that it be taken down
5. No one listened and some individuals flaunted the fact
6. Goodbye Peter and no more gamedays

So it was okay to Tivo it (as Peter himself suggested) but not to share a copy via internet?

Unless you are a techno geek and know how to take it from the Tivo and put it on the internet that functionality isn't built into the Tivo (AFAIK).

I think the ultimate issue at stake here is the movie shouldn't have been leaked and shouldn't have been shared, period.
