will anyone ever make a ROTJ kit for the atari star wars?

I know I saw somewhere that someone had made a mock up of this before. But just curious if this would ever be possible? Think about D2K...made in 2008...but looks like it came out of the 80's. I am no programmer...but would love if this could ever be a possibility.... and I'm sure there would be high demand for it if it was ever done...

are you talking a vector kit to convert star wars into ROTJ? I would say next to never..

Atari made a kit to convert star wars cockpits into ROTJ. It was probably factory and it was a gut the cabinet kit..

It would be a completely new game. Obviously someone would have to program it...but it would be an add on like the esb kit... I know its probably never gonna happen...just curious what others think...

I remember reading an article somewhere about someone mentioning that there was talk about re-creating a new vector game based on the ROTJ story. My search-fu is pretty weak this morning, maybe someone will link it.

I emailed him awhile back and though I can't remember his reasoning he said that project was completely MAME based and somehow didn't think it could be translated to hardware for use in the arcade machine. I want to say it had something to do with the amount of stuff going on on the game, CPU, and graphical ability of the original boards that wouldn't be able to handle his game. It's all waaaay over my head how all this stuff works but it seems to me that if it works in MAME that it could be modified to work in on a PCB as a kit somehow.

In any event it looks like the momentum on his project has slowed and may not ever be finished. Too bad because it looks like a great game so far.

Yup...that's the video I remember seeing. If u think about it the gameplay wouldn't have to be too different from the other two games .....
First level....endor...speeder bike....dodge crude looking trees while shooting AT-ST's...
Second level....space battle like one shown in video...
Third level.. ..inside death star...instead flying in trench...the image surrounds the millennium falcon...once again dodging obstacles... shoot tie fighters...get to center and shoot the big power generator...
Final level....fast level trying to escape death star...

Just my idea...

This would be great if it were coded like the original hardware so in theory it could be added as a 3rd game to VectorLabs SW/ESB multigame kit.

Wouldn't that be something!!

Its my understanding that this is mame only because the the number of vectors that it would take to generate such an awesome game would be more than the monitor itself can generate. Now if someone like Dezbaz had a 19K6400 monitor to disect and rebuild, it might be possible, but the refresh rates still would probably be too slow. But KLOV says the 19K6400 is a HI-res vector....of course, that may just mean its a med res the same as an Ampliphone. If not, it would take a hi-res vector monitor with a higher refresh rate.......at least theoretically......maybe?

Of course, you could always gut a SW cab and put in an LCD monitor and a mame pc .....Where'd that link for the Star Wars chair go again....;)

It's not in MAME. It's a PC based game he is writing in Dark Basic, which is a game oriented version of Basic. http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=view_product&id=2030.

It does not output vectors to a vector monitor. Vector monitors of the past, would not be able to display all the vectors, as the beam speed is too slow to change direction fast enough.

In order for something to be added to a multi-kit someone would have to write a vector game in assembler or use something like the ZVG or Clay's new board. You would still be limited by the monitor speed issues, so a game like the Dark Basic based one, need to be simplified.
