Will a Popeye board work fine on a Donkey Kong/Jr cabinet?

So grabbing a DK Jr cocktail and wanted to get a Popeye pcb to put in it... But would it work? I think the board is interchangeable correct? But Popeye plays Horizontal so would I have to change the orientation of the monitor? Sorry everyone new and trying to learn here. 😄

How do you plan on changing the orientation of the monitor in that CT? Eh?

Exactly what VectorCollector said. ^

It's never going to happen.

If you want a Popeye. Get a Popeye.

Also, if I'm being honest, it doesn't make sense that you are already trying to play a different game on a machine you don't even have yet. Get the game first and go from there.

He probably really wants popeye but this DK JR popped up and he's brainstorming. Take it easy on the kid.

DK JR cocktail is really sweet, though. Good first game.

Here' a better idea.
Get the DKJR CT (assuming you are convinced you want the CT and not a UR).
Then get the DKJR remix.
Then figure out if you can add a DK boardset in there.
Then buy the VL Nintendo switcher and adapters.
Then get the DK remix.
Then figure out if you can add a DK3 boardset in there.
Then ...

I know my DK multi allows all three games + remix. But I'm unsure if one can add all those PCBs into a cocktail.

like others have said in so many words ... if you want a Popeye, begin hunting for a Popeye

unless you're very comfortable/knowledgable with small electronics repair and modification, you're opening a can of worms trying to play Popeye in that DK Jr

good luck, and welcome to the hobby :)

I think I said this in the other other thread..

If you are new to the hobby you will get bored no matter what game you get (if its just one)

your better bet is to pick up that ms pacman cocktail since those are easy to stick an adapter in so you can get arcadesd or 60-1 and have more games.

the nintendo cocktails you cant easily change or make jamma usually..

at least if you have mspac and you get bored you have options to do more with it.

good insight. add a jamma setup clipped into it will let you run Arpicade and popeye and all of the other vertical games you could think up to play.

^^ I've been away for awhile, I was not aware that KLOV became so "pro EMULATION / 60-in-1". Wow - how times have changed.

ha, touche!

I don't think much has changed since I joined. In fact I first found KLOV from doing a google search for multi-games. Ran across references to the Clay projects and heard about some JROK dude so I showed up to look around.

The uber vocal hardcore purists, either aren't around as much or they've chosen to stop yelling their moral stand?

Or maybe people have realized what was mentioned above that one single game per big-@$$ machine is limiting for space and attention span?

Alligator clips are an amazing thing. Bags of them are even better.

Don't listen to these fools, nobody who responded actually knows jack about Nintendo.

YES the PCB is interchangeable. Plug and play. DKJR/DK3 tables can play all (5) Nintendo Classic PCB's. Popeye tables can only play Popeye (wiring lacks some power).

And YES you can rotate the monitor. DKJR/DK3/Popeye tables all have monitor mounts for either orientation. Takes (2) minutes moving (4) screws.

Finally, useful information.

thats why you recommend emulation to someone new to the hobby. :>

the above instructions give me a headache...

If I was new to the hobby I would have no clue what you are talking about not to mention doubling or more the cost of his pickup.

Ahhhh! Thanks! Yes Im getting ahead of myself. Was more curious then anything. I want a Popeye arcade but its not easy to come by (I regret missing one locally last year for $400...) I just wanted to see if I got a PCB if it would be possible on this cocktail.

I am just learning and sorry if a lot of my questions are silly or sound stupid lol

Then Newbs will always be Newbs. LOL :001_stongue:
Anyone who has a 3in1 or 4in1 DK will tell you it's the best thing since ... (fill in the blank).

I was reading all posts before commenting. REP'd

Nintendo was very good at making their cabs generic and included horizontal and vertical mounting brackets in them.
