A big KLOV thank you to fellow forum member Kstillin who took a Taito board and some parts and turned it into a working Wild Western Board to (plug and) play in my Frontline. This game is awesome! Dare I say,the most underrated/underappreciated title of all time? Well okay I'm sure that'll start some lively debate. Very challenging and entertaining game. Glad to have the ability to play, even if only in another cabinet. Thanks Kerry! I would reccomend you to anyone without hesitation. A+!

Awesome Taito rules! Is Tin Star also a direct swap? It also uses that dial control.

I have no idea. But I could not agree more. This, Front Line, Elevator Action, Jungle King/Hunt, all awesome titles. They are a sold #2 behind Atari as a manufacturer for me. Never played Tin Star, will have to check it out. Is it fun?

I've never had a chance to play it but Taito is my favorite manufacturer so it pains me that I have not. Add Zoo Keeper and Alpine Ski to the list also :) And yeah, Elevator Action is in my top 5 favorite all time games.

How could I forget Zookeeper with Jow's thread and all, wow! I've never played Alpine Ski either...

I know what you are thinking...it's a primitive skiing game....but it's a Taito game....so trust me....it is an awesome awesome game. I got Richie Knucklez hooked on it as well as a bunch of the locals, the gameplay and it's intracacies are quite underrated.

I agree with the Taito a close second to Atari. When i picked up collecting a few months back, i knew i wanted the "best" games from my youth (and that still hold up).

I had no idea what i would end up with - just researched and made decisions based on that credo.

Ended up with 6 Ataris, and 2 Taitos (2 willams as well). If i can add two more (for space reasons i cant) it would be EA and Jungle hunt.

Taito designed some brilliant software back then.....

Yup Wild Western is a game I never played growing up or even heard of it for that matter. I did play Front Line and was one of my favorite games so I had to get that one. After finally tracking down a Wild Western kit without even playing the game as soon as I started playing it I was hooked. I finally found a dedicated cab not to long ago. I also just got a Tin Star which is another I never played or heard of, but its on its way. Hope its as good as Front Line & Wild Western. I am a real big fan of Taito Games just not the way the cabinets are built. Taito even made the 2010 unheard of game of the year Ice Cold Beer / Zeke's Peak.

The thing that's great about Taito IMO is that they didn't just settle for making a Space Invaders clone or another labrynth game. They created games that were so varied from one another and yet had these hidden gems of strategy within the game that allowed you to build your acumen while still making sure it humbled you enough no matter how good you became to the point where no one in the world can marathon those old Taito classics (at least the non-patterned ones). Even after I got the EA record I am still learning little subtle movements within the game that while will never keep you entirely safe from harm, would yield some slight degree of uptick in survival rate.

They are just so amazingly well designed in their gameplay I think.

Wild Western is awesome. We had one at the Mars Music in Elkton MD when I was growing up. If I ever hear the "Ghost Riders in the Sky" music it's immediately what I think of. :)

I'll let you know when I get a chance to play it which I see coming real soon (I hope!)

Tin Star uses a horizontal monitor, so it wouldn't play too well in a Front Line or Wild Western.

Front Line and Wild Western use the same boardset; it's just a ROM swap to switch games.

I played both Front Line and Wild Western back in the early 80's. Front Line was hugely popular, but Wild Western wasn't. I never had to wait to play it. I love both games. I'm currently restoring a Front Line. I have plans to play Wild Western in it too. :D
