My sister bought my kids a wii console and we got a few games for it and after a couple weeks i can honestly say i really don't care for the new games. I imagine i'm not alone on this as this forum is all about the classic games. Something can be said about their simplicity and simple fun that can't be beat. I'll take my outrunners to mario cart, i'll take my californa speed to need for speed, you get the idea. My kids agree also. Some of the sports games are ok, but mario and some of the others are too compicated. Back to original donkey kong for me. Just a little rant from me.

I agree , the new games bore me , but I do like Wii Love Golf and bowling . You can download some arcade games for the virtual console .

Hopefully in a week or so, the outrunners will be even more enjoyable :D

I find that I go through phases of liking the newer console stuff and then gravitating back to the classics.
I do enjoy playing Williams pinball classics on the Wii, since I can't afford to have all of those machines.

Homebrew Channel ='s SNES, NES, Atari and the ability to download all sorts of cool RGB games. Wii is the suck without Homebrew.

I love my Wii. If your a classic's guy its the only way to go as far as new consoles in comparison with the XBOX and PS3. Downloadable content, tons of classics, worthy remakes of classics and so on. Punch-Out is back to basics, Mega-Man 9 is back to basics, SMB will soon be back to basics as well. I'm getting ready to download the Bubble Bobble remake on WiiWare. Even the freebies are great. I especially like the "Everybody Votes" channel. Its nice to see Nintendo still knows its roots.

The wii games are fun, interactive, simple and truly groundbreaking. IMO of course.

And remember, donkey kong was pretty complex for our grandparents. They scoffed too and went back to their tv guides...But we all have the right to rant, if we didnt all do a little 'things were simpler and better in my day!' every now and again, how'd people know that we were becoming old cranks??? :)

Yeah, if you like simple gameplay the Wii is much better than the other current gen consoles. The Wii has tons of party friendly, mini-game compilations. Which comes at a sort of price, because a lot of companies are releasing crappy, simple to pick-up and play games. And like was mentioned the virtual console has a lot of classic console games available for download... for a price. But both PSN and Xbox Live have a bunch of arcade style, downloadable games for purchase as well.

That said, I don't use our Wii that much. I already own most of the classic consoles, and the games I want to play on them so I don't have much use for the Wii's Virtual Console. I also recently rediscovered my Midway Arcade Treasures for the XBOX, which has a lot of great arcade classics on 1 disc. I spent a lot of today playing Robotron 2084 and Satan's Hollow.

One thing the Wii gets right are those Sega House of the Dead Style rail shooters. There's a few good titles in this genre worth picking up.

Off the top of my head here's a couple:

Ghost Squad
House of the Dead 2 and 3 (on a single disc)
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

I knew I had one complaint on the tip of my tongue. I too already own many classic games and consoles. I wish Nintendo would introduce some means of free downloading if you can prove you own the game.

Regardless, there are lots of worthy remakes, both WiiWare and Retail, most of which cannot be found on the 360 or PS3.

every generation has its great games. every generation has its garbage. there is a good line in chasing ghosts, something like

"some of these guys are stuck in the 80s"

I think a lot of people in these forums fit that. I could care less when a game was made, a good game is a good game, shit is shit.

Wii has classics too!

Dude, you must not have really delved into what the Wii offers if you like retro gaming and didn't like the Wii. Take a look at the Wii shop channel because I'm on there all the time buying up all the old side scrollers and platforming games. I get the occasional new releases like Punch-Out!! too. I'd say most of my Wii playing time is taken playing Kid Icarus, Pinball, and wii ware games like the Bit.Trip titles.

I think once the 4-player New Super Mario Bros. releases the Wii will be worthwhile. For me that'll be the first really fun, innovative game that Nintendo has put out since the N64 days. I think the problem with the Wii is that most of the best games are Nintendo developed, and all of those games are just somewhat lazy sequels. That being said, though, I still haven't played the new Punch Out and would love to play the rail shooters mentioned earlier.

By the way, it's possible to use an exploit in Zelda to soft-mod your Wii and load up any classic games you want. I know that this is sort of a shiesty thing to promote, but I really don't think that Nintendo should be milking 20 year old games; they should be part of the package.

Geometry Warnor an insane psychedelic shooter (kind of a cross between Space Duel and Jeff Minter's Tempest 2000). Williams Pinball HoF is worth owning a Wii for all by itself. ANd I've bought a few VA TurboGrafx games even though I own the original HuCards/CDs, just for convenience.

My experience with the new games is already old; we're talking the original playstation for me! We had fun with it, playing Twisted Metal and Duke Nukem variations. I can imagine the new Wii blows those games away. I suppose I'll eventually buy one, but for now I have plenty of classics in my basement that I can play. Every generation has games that are special to them.

I didn't know they had Geometry Wars on Wii ?

That game is awesome !!!!

I love being stuck in the 80's ! But I don't care too much for the music ,

best current consle of all time is a original modded xbox
cant beat all the goodies it can contain
the wii comes in second since it can also be soft modded
x360 = total crap(shoddy components, bad tech support {why cant i speak to some thats not india}and all the good games on the system are on the pc and better on the pc)
ps3= ok system but so overpriced its not worth it (its like a current day neo geo home console)

weeeee this is my happy 420 th post time to take a 420 brake

I played Boom Blox Party with my wife and kids the other night for almost three hours straight on the Wii. It was the most I have played in one sitting in a long time on any system. The game is so much fun.

The Wii DOES have some good titles.... I finished Twilight Princess and enjoyed every minute of it. A must own. Definitely not a lazy sequel. Same with Super Mario Galaxy. Such a new type of 3D mario game, it's pretty great if you like platforming. My buddy and I also played Tiger Woods 10 on the Wii last night with the new motion plus controls. It's a really amazing golf game and has more of a goldentee party feel than any other golf game out there. I love my Wii, and my 360 and my PS3. Each one serves a purpose. I would never get rid of it.

not for explicitly wii but really for any modern consoles, i honestly prefer my games or the NES. i feel like the newer shit is more complicated and requires a lot of playtime to enjoy, whereas i'd much prefer to just flip on dk or pacman and play for a half hour or whatever.

You have got to be kidding me.

I am not a nintendo fanboy by ANY stretch but this is ignorance at its best.

You are a Nintendo fanboy for sure.

Miyamoto on Twilight Princess:
"Shigeru Miyamoto has admitted that he believes there were problems with Wii launch title Zelda: Twilight Princess"

"What I've been saying to our development teams recently is that Twilight Princess was not a bad game, by any means. But, still, it felt like there was something missing."

Miyamoto on Super Mario Galaxy:
"And while, personally, I feel like Super Mario Galaxy was able to do some things that were very new and were very unique, at the same time, from another perspective, certain elements of it do feel somewhat conservative in terms of how far we branched out with design. And so this is something I've been talking to both of those teams about."

So yes, these were indeed lazy sequels. They were unwilling to delay the games in order to make them as good as they could've been. Nintendo is more concerned with meeting quotas than making truly great games.
