Thats cool.

I love how Nintendo wont budge from making 2D platformers. It freaking rules.

Got the new Wario game yesterday (along with the Williams pinball collection). I'll post my impressions when I get around to playing it.

So, I'm getting better at the Funhouse. I managed 17.3 million yesterday. I also enjoy whirlwind a lot, but that is a super-fast table. It's hard playing something like that after playing Gorgon or one of the slower tables. I think I ended up on the next to the last table on the Williams Challenge (Sorcerer?).

WTF is the point of announcing that? Meh. Announced for 2011, which means they will be sold out of stores until 2014, which means...

They didn't announce it, people are speculating. Hardware companies start working on the next gen as soon as the current is out, so it's no surprise that some may have had the chance to see an early version already.

It's been a while, so I figured I'd revive the thread that will one day rule the world. Got the Target Special Edition of Shaun White's Snowboarding: Road Trip for Christmas. When I first saw it, I wasn't really considering picking it up until I heard it could be played with the balance board. Even then I was skeptical. But, I have to say that the reviews really made me want to check it out:

If you plan on picking the game up, and do not have a Balance Board, then drop the score a whole point. Yes, it makes that much of a difference. If this is a first glimpse at the future of games utilizing it, then it's a very bright future indeed.

Not only is this one of the best-looking Wii games available, both remote and balance board controls feel really nice.

If you want to really get into a snowboarding game, actually standing on a board is probably the best choice, and the integration with the Balance Board raises Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip above the pack in that respect, but it's in no way gimmicky, as it can be just as enjoyable with your Wii-mote, thanks to a very intuitive control system.

I've only toppled the first two mountains so far, and I'm still getting used to how to turn accurately on the balance board, but I have to say that this is what I was hoping for when the balance board was first announced. Skate It also sounds like it might be decent on the board...so if anyone has this or gets it soon, please post some impressions (osver, I'm looking at you again...aren't you the one that's been waiting for a BB skateboarding game?)

Anyway, as for SWS:RT, it may not be "complete" and could be a little "kiddie" as some say...mainly from the cartoony graphics and silly personalities of the riders...but all that really fits the game well. I know some people were pretty happy when We Ski came out, so if you're into it, you should definitely give this one a try.

Once again, though, online play is missing and from my understanding, only one BB can connect to the Wii at a time, which means even if someone brought theirs over, you'd be playing one at a time rather than split screen

I have Skate It for the Wii, and the balance board controls are HORRIBLE. I was so disappointed with the BB controls. It's still fun with the Wiimote and Nunchuck controls, but the balance board was a huge let down.

Here's Kotaku's review of it: http://kotaku.com/5097344/skate-it-review-suck-it

I didn't get anything for the Wii this holiday season, but did get three DS games. Maybe I should go revive that thread...

I remember reading that the BB controls were a let down, but then I went back and the reviews seemed to "change." I'll take your word for it, though. Six pressure areas is a bit too much, I think. SW has only 4 and even that gets too sensitive sometimes, even on the low setting.

The turning is the horrible part that just kills it for me. It's basically all or nothing, and it's really hard to do gradual turns, and therefore line up any of your tricks.

Shaun White suffers from this as well, but a lot of it has to do with my poor balance

Although part of it is also how the board works. For example, after a jump, in order to do a rotation, you put more weight on one side of the board (left, right, front(flip), or back(flip)). When you land, of course, you want to reposition yourself so that you're going straight again. Say for example you stood on your toes to do a rotation to the right and then put your heels back down when landing to straighten out. Well, if you put too much pressure on your heels, the board will register this as you leaning that way and send you carving hard to the left.

So, technically there's nothing wrong with that since it's working the way it's intended to, but it does take a while to get used to and can often make last minutes decisions or impulse turns a nightmare.

I've put a reasonable amount of time into both games and found them to have some pretty solid learning curves, but able to pull off some solid basic tricks. If enough time is dropped into both, I can only imagine someone who can get REALLY good at it. At PAX, we had someone from EA with us demo'ing skateit and busting out some CRAZY stuff on the board. Just take a bit of practice I suppose.

I just did a checkout on the game from work as well...need to pickup SWS too. Hopefully I get time to play skateit!

I may end up getting Skate It when the price drops. Not sure if I'll have the time it needed to really get into it. Assuming I get pretty decent at SWS, do you think the skills learned there will translate over fairly easily? Or is Skate It different enough to be like relearning it all over again?

If you read that Kotaku article I linked to they said they loved the demo, but the finished game was much worse.
