Wii U - Thoughts & Opinions now that it's been out for awhile?

Anyone have any feedback on The Cave and Duck Tales Remastered? My son is looking for an inexpensive game to hold him over until his birthday in April. Duck Tales looks sweet- I LOVED the NES version...

I loved it, you can even unlock the 8bit soundtrack for the original tracks and 8 bit version of the new stages.

My pants are fitting funny with the release of DKC Tropical Freeze just a few short days away.

Can. Not. Wait.

Man, they're not even trying.

What am I looking at here?

Looks like there is nothing on the game pad screen while he is playing maybe? Disappointed that you can't see the game on the controller while u play it really helps when I want to play a game while the kiddos are watching Disney junior.

You usually press the Select (-) button to switch to gamepad mode. There may not be anything on the screen during gameplay, but there should still be Gamepad mode. Though, I agree they should have at least put a map or some kind of info as a second screen. Kind of surprised they didn't.

You can play it on the gamepad.

You just don't see anything if you are playing on TV.

That's good to know. Though it would be nice to have something on the gamepad screen, it's not that big of a deal. You're not really looking at the screen while you're playing anyways. It's not like Zelda where you have maps and items to select.

It got a great review (9/10) on IGN.

*stands behind a corner for cover* I've never been a big fan of the DK Country games or any since then, but am somewhat interested in this.

As for the gamepad, I hate games that duplicate the TV on the gamepad screen, so if nothing is displayed while I'm playing on TV, I'm perfectly fine with that, ESPECIALLY if it turns the screen off completely to save battery. Then again, if that's the case, I'll use the pro controller anyway so long as it's supported.

That's a really good point. I know you have the extended battery, but the standard battery is really, really bad. I feel like I have to plug it in every time I play.

Yeah, I was basically plugging it in every time I was done - 2 or so hours of play was too much for it, plus we use it for Hulu and Netflix most of the time, so it drained quick. When I'm not using the pad (but am using the pro controller or whatever), I usually try to remember to turn off the display...though I wish it was a switch on the device rather than having to dig into a settings menu every time, but hey, you can't win them all.
