Wii Stopped Working

whaaaat??? That's BS....

I'm torn. I probably have $100 just in VC stuff on my Wii. That shit works still, I just cant play discs. Do I just buy one of the pretty new black ones? Or try and fix this thing and cause further damage? :)

Depending on the price of the drive, I would probably attempt to fix it.
I doubt any further damage would be caused, if you are just replacing the drive...But then again, never replaced one in there.

Yeah, and I lose all my VC stuff. THAT blows.

If that's true, they have drastically changed their practices. They may charge if it's out of warranty, but I hadn't heard of them fucking you out of stuff you paid for. Obviously if you buy a new Wii then yeah you fuck yourself out of it, though.

With the $75 bill, you get re-activation of the warranty for a year.

I priced some replacement drives, but people were ebaying them for over $60.

incrediblegamez - you said you would do it for cost of parts, how much does it cost for a replacement drive? Maybe I looked in the wrong place.

Yeah, he said there is some agreement when you dl VC stuff that it cant be copied/saved/blah blah blah.

mine stopped working becuz i stopped turning it on, lol, i probably got a grand of stuff or more orginal retail. never use it

This is a load of bull. You paid for it, your system crapped out (which, to our knowledge is NOT your fault - it's Nintendo's) and they expect you to re-buy all that? THEY CAN transfer it FOR you, but you obviously can't.

Dude, the hacking community must have REALLY pissed them off, because in 2007 they were fucking awesome about EVERYTHING.

I agree... I have NEVER had a problem with Nintendo customer service. I've used all the big three (sony, microsoft and nintendo) and out of them, Nintendo comes out shining on top.

I hate to say thing about them, but as with any tech support/customer support phone line, if you call and complain enough (in a polite manor of course) they usually will do just about anything for you... just to either get you off their backs, or to help out a good customer

THAT'S why I hate digital delivery of games software and paid-for DLC. You're at the mercy of their system letting you download it again. I'd infinitely prefer to have the game on media, so I can reinstall it if the system craps out.

Not where I work. You complain enough, trust me, you're shit is gonna take longer to get fixed. Either way, we have to deal with you, so the more you complain and make us suffer, the more we'll make you suffer. It shouldn't come as a surprise that those who don't bitch too much get issues resolved a LOT faster :)

That's why I said a polite manor. If you're being a dick about it, yeah, the person may be a dick back

And that's why I never complain to my server or treat them like crap,I don't do eat spit and food that's been intentionally dropped on the floor numerous times.
And I won't ever buy a first gen of any console.I'll wait until they fix all the bugs, maybe a drop in price then buy one.

True - I missed that part of your post, sorry.

Word of advice for everyone in case you hadn't figured it out yet...Nine times out of ten, the person you're talking to in support has nothing to do with anything and obviously can't do anything personally to resolve your issue (depending what it is, of course). If you know for a fact that the issue isn't the support dude's fault, don't make it seem as if you blame them - they didn't do it and generally have no part in the resolution, either. You're frustrated, yeah, and you want to take it out on someone - okay. But at least make it clear that you realize it's not their fault and that you don't blame them. That DOES go a long way a lot of times, even if you don't think it does.

This is common knowledge, of course, but some people still just want to bitch and yell thinking it'll get them better support. This isn't retail people, you're not "making a scene" where they just want to get you out ASAP before everyone else sees what's going on.

Hell, I tell my people to fucking hang up on people if they get too belligerent and won't let us talk or even try to resolve their issue for them - and that's what I was told when I first started there and was on the phones all the time. We obviously tell them to try calm the caller down, and let them know that we can't help them if they keep going on like that. If they do, it's a "Please call back when you have calmed down" *click* :)

That always makes them madder...and our customers PAY for that support, too :) But hey, I'm not going to let my support reps take that shit from people. We have other, more reasonable customers waiting in the queue, so we'll talk to them instead.

Thank you, drive through.

No worries. :)

One thing I was taught early on in my customer service job (don't want to call it a career... I'm getting out of it) was, if they are angry, act overly polite. It WILL make most people more angry. Also, if they call in to complain later, you can say you wer being super polite, and people who were on your end can back you up.

Personally, that's the kind of stuff that makes it worth it... for me...I love watching people get angry, when either you have no control over it, they are trying to get something done outside of warranty, or something of that nature.

Had a guy tell me that he would never shop at our place again, and told us to F ourselves as he left... this was about 120 days after he bought something, and we had already exchanged it for him that day... our warranty is only 90 days, but we were being nice... also, it was the day after we learned we were going out of business

I've never done call centre work but working in retail if someone comes up to me with a complaint and tells me how to fix it right away I won't help them. Now if you're polite and ask what options you have I'll bend over backwards for you.

Best part of an angry customer is telling them to have a good day as they storm out of the door. Actually at one place that I worked one of the exit doors was out of order but the guy was so upset he didn't notice, he bashed his head into it while trying to shove it open. I still laugh at that guy.
