Wife told me to buy another game- for the 2 YR OLD!!

If you let him beat on one game, he'll think it's alright to beat on other games...

I agree with this. I have three young boys, and have constantly harped on them everytime they go downstairs to the arcade. The oldest is now 8, and I always tell him that he's in charge.

My wife thinks I'm a little over the top, but I really don't want the extra work fixing things. And when they bring any new friends over, we have a quick talk over what they can and can't do.

It works out very well -- I don't even sweat when they all go downstairs now -- as my kids keep everyone in line.

Your two year old will get it soon ...... just keep on him. :)

The problem is that kids know when you don't want them to touch something and are drawn to it... I have stuff in my basement just for the kids to keep them busy when they come down... after two minutes they are over to the games I want them to stay away from. No getting away from it... you can't have nice things with kids.

I like the idea of using a Jakks-Pacific all-in-one. You could use an old TV, an extra stick and a couple of buttons. Throw em into a small cab, done. You could do the same thing with a V-tech "V-Smile" kids' console. Those use carts and the 1st gen ones are dirt cheap from what I've seen.

good idea. you could even build a bartop cabinet out of plywood or something to put it in for him.

The trackball game was a really good suggestion, as one of the games the wife wants is........... CENTIPEDE!

But of course they don't pop up alot in these parts.. But at least I have another idea now!

I say get him a whack a mole type game. Great way to tire him out when he doesn't agree on it being bedtime.

Have you started to teach him how to actually play the games? I think Jow's son is about two and he seem to have a pretty good grasp on how to play Zookeeper and Food Fight. Help your son understand how the controls work and what the object of the game is. Take turns playing with him by holding his hands on the controls so he can feel how you use them. Watch over his shoulder while he plays by himself and give him encouraging tips and pointers. I bet after a while he with get the hang of it and realize he doesn't need to bang on the machines any more. Best of luck!

And buy a Millipede machine for your wife, slap the BRAZE Multipede kit in it so you can play both. Its a classic and a keeper IMHO.
