Are there any real strategies to this game other than "don't die" and "save the pow box for as long as possible"? The game play seems much more organic than other games. I can't seem to break 100k.

So my wife decided to play a game of Mario Bros. today and ended up completing 24 levels...
Here is a picture of her score. She was proud - so I said I would tell people what a good job she did.

How long has she been playing the game? Your OP makes it sound like she decided to play the game for the first time and got ~206K points (on "difficult" dipswitch settings, as mentioned in a different post). If that's the claim, consider me skeptical.

I've only played the game on MAME a handful of times, so I don't really know how difficult it is to get that sort of a score, but judging from the replies in this thread, that score would seem well out of reach for someone on their first try, or even with unlimited tries on their first day of playing the game.

She's been playing for a while, I remember a post by him maybe (6 months to a year ago?) where she had gotten a good score on Mario Bros. So this wasn't her first time playing.

Those were great pics, credit needs to go to the photographer too since they looked like professional shots.

As far as strategy... its amazing watching her play. She does things that are SOOOOO risky and gets away with it. I am always like - omg your gonna die - and she says - no I do that all the time. That's how she gets out of all these tight squeezes.

Now that's not creepy at all, most hot chicks are very good at MB.

A player capable of that would know about the safe zones from the fireballs, not taking risky moves. The key to playing high scores in Mario Bros is playing it safe and not taking risks. If you know the patterns, then you know this is a fact and how to play it safe. Everything repeats in the exact same pattern.

I feel a youtube video of her playing the game may be in order. She is out of town until Wed but when she gets back I will ask her about playing a game so I can check on that.

Well, if she plays "few games a week" then 200k+ is not surprising at all. Many thought that the first post seem to suggest that she got 200k+ the first time she played it.

And to a novice player a lot of things seem risky that aren't really, and there are a lot of risks one must take that wouldn't be apparent to someone not familiar enough with the game play.
