Width Coils without cores, bad idea?

I usually like to cover as much of the screen as possible, and sometimes this results in a few width coil cores out to the point where I just end up removing them completely. Plus theres a couple games that were missing them to begin with. I dont see any harmful effects and some games have been running this way for a year or two now. But it's always been in the back of my mind. Anyone see any problems with this?
 
Nope. Other than the fact that you'll lose the core if it's not in the width coil.

Also, if you need more width, you can usually adjust the values of some of the poly caps on the chassis.
