Anybody ever see or use a Mario Bros Widebody for a Playchoice 10?

A friend is thinking of building one while I build mine and has an oppurtunity of getting a widebody to use.

I imagine the control Panel would be the biggest issue?

I've never seen it. But I've thought about it.

I have an extra widebody cab and hacked control panel and thought about putting the PC10 single monitor innards in it. You'd just have to drill the holes for the extra buttons on the control panel. But there's plenty of space on the widebody control panel for button-spacing so it's not too big of an issue.

But I don't know if the Mario Bros power supply is adequate for the PC10 harness. Your buddy would also have to have a custom-made marquee since the original PC10 marquee would be too short for the widebody cab.

Anyhow, is that widebody cab gutted already?

As far as I know, it's not, just in rough shape. But neither of us are Mario Bros fans enough to restore it as a playable Mario Bros. My buddy doesn't mind cleaning up so it appears to be one, but have the guts be a playchoice.

Is the power supply the same as a popeye?

The power supply and harness in Mario Bros. can be used to play Popeye.

You should just leave all the Mario Bros wiring intact and add the Playchoice wiring in the cab. All you would do is just connect the PC10 wiring to the monitor and control panel; so just unplug those connections from the Mario Bros harness and leave it. It will leave you the option to play Mario Bros. later on, or even Popeye. And Mario Bros. for the PC10 is expensive, but inferior, to the original arcade version of Mario Bros. so I'd suggest keeping the original pcb and guts and just add the PC10 power supply and wiring to the cab.

But send me the metal Mario Bros. id tag if you don't want it. :)

Why would you want to do that? A lot more work, and ruin a WB cab which are not very plentiful.

I agree but it's super hard to find a playchoice cab up here (I'm using a gutted DK Jr). He's will most likely pass on this and look for an empty DK or popeye cab.

If he ends up getting it, I'll let him know someone wants it.

I guess just adding the PC10 to it wouldn't be such a bad idea, that way it can be easily cleaned up to go back to a Mario Bros. I guess he could find an extra control panel to screw around with and make the extra holes while keeping the original in tact.

Not a bad idea

Sounds like the beginning phases of a Frankenstein's monster to me.

I'd be patient and find a better cab...

If the marquee is nice looking let me know. Maybe he and I could do a trade of my extra widebody control panel for the nice marquee. And let me know if the bezel is nice too.

Put me second in line for a marquee. Looking for one, I have none. lol

I never understand how people can't be a fan of the original Mario Bros in the widebody cabinet:

Now that being said, I HAVE considered creating a 'dedicated' vs. Dr. Mario out of a Nintendo Widebody cabinet before. That game is just too damned hard to play 2 players side by side on a standard Ninty cab.

That would be outstanding.

I have actually also considered doing a dedicated Vs. Dr. Mario mini (custom art and all) the same way I did my Mario Bros mini. Just need to find another donor KLAX mini cab. :) Vs. Ice Climber mini is also in the back of my mind.

I wouldn't mind one, but I'd probably hardly play it and it would be more to have as a collector's piece. Kind of what I was thinking when I grabbed a Donkey Kong. I bought it more for how unique the cabs look and the artwork. Kind of like "how could you have an arcade collection, and not have one of those". lol

The game is a blast. I play it 50 times more than I ever play DK.

My buddy made an offer to the guy, but we're still waiting for his reply.

He said he had the marquee, but didn't send pics of it. Cab looks in decent shape although he's not sure if it's wired for mario bros or just jamma but is including a mario bros pcb, wiring and power supply. The control panel has been hacked up though, can't tell if it's been modified or is a totally different panel. No Mario Bros bezel. I've dealt with the guy before, so if he can get one he will try.

Will keep you posted.

phoennix, did you ever get the MB cab?
