Widebody Lockbar repair with good results, saved a C bill on a new one.
STTNG: had the most common problem with the two outside welds on the
retainer coming loose causing a "spongy" loose lockbar. Causing the
ability to pull the lockbar cover up and down allowing the glass to
shift back and forth.
Had a welding/machine shop weld it nicely along the two outside edges,
with a couple of spot tacks in the middle of the circle holes
underneat. $20 bucks, this guy was good and does a lot of repair for
Disneyland (in OC).
He buffed it out with a pneumatic air grinder and then I slightly
finished it with medium grain scotch-brite.
No burn marks are visible. The repair scar is no more visibile than
the original tack welds when mfgd.

I found that there was a bit of play still on the lockbar, but it was
more so related to glass stop and the lever guide assembly being bent
wrong. Made some tweaks and bent some things back to spec. There's
still a little bit of play (glass and lockbar movement), but it's no
worse than any of my other machines. Mission accomplished.
btw, scotch brite is my new friend for legs and buffing out
imperfections, scratches and stains on lockbars, legs and siderails.
