Wico Leaf Joystick too stiff after rebuild

OK, after rebuilding my Wico 4-way leaf switch joystick with parts from Mike's Arcade - new ball and shaft, new washers and centering grommet, it feels way too stiff and doesn't seem to have the full range of travel up-down, right-left.

I also seem to be missing the coil spring (it does usually have one, yes?)

Does anyone have an exploded parts drawing so I can check my work?

I want to make sure I put it back together correctly.

Thanks,

RussM

I am not sure what the correct method is to fix this but in one of my other joysticks instead of the metal washer it had a slightly thinner plastic washer. I tried that instead on my joystick that was too stiff and it was much better.

I bet if you put that spring in there you'll find it operates much better.

Probably right. The local hardware store carries a good line of springs - do you happen to have specs on size?

Also, where in the assembly does it go? It was completely missing when I disassembled it.

Do you or anyone have an exploded view of this joystick with all of the parts in assembly order?

I'll also check position of the washers. I know I did something wrong in re-assembly.

Thanks.

TRONFREAK:

Or something.

OK, if anyone care, the exploded schematic tells the tale.

I had the steel washer in the wrong place, below the plastic plate instead of between the centering grommet and the lower plate, and I am missing the spring.

I re-assembled the joystick, and now I am getting good range of movement and hitting the leaf switches properly.

It's way too loose without the spring though - I will need a replacement for that and possibly the nylon 4-way actuator, which is a bit worn.

Thanks all, and I hope my folly is a lesson to others.
