Why was Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter Never Made?

I'm guessing a real crossover game was never made due to the fundamental difference in blocking - back vs a button. Whose system do you use?

im surprised it didn't happen for marketing reasons, but nostalgia aside, the MK series is terrible compared to SF series and Capcom Japan knew that.

If they let capcom do the gameplay/graphics and just used the existing characters from MK it could have been decent.

Oh,that hurts, capcom fanboy alert lol. Jk I liked both series but I liked mortal kombat more because I thought street fighter 2 was too repetitive, they made about eighty different editions that all felt the same. Too cartoonish, Anyway thats my opinion. Had much more memories of mk then street fighter.

I played both series at the time they were released, but mortal combat is kind of like Fischer Price My First Fighting Game.

I am a bit of a Capcom fanboy though :)

Really they are like apples and oranges. But I must say that after MK2 IMHO the franchise fell apart. Added run button, and combos that only require you remember the correct sequence. And the graphics took a down turn. MK1 was the best looking, the characters looked the most real, MK2 had the best engine if you can get past the 100% combos.

Capcom games in are more like Chess or Janken at high speed. Bait your opponent, counter, attack. Just feels deeper.

I love both series, but I choose SF over MK by the tiniest of margins, although playing as a hell ninja is pretty bad ass.
