Hello Everyone,

I was wondering why sometimes when I am doing a cap kit I come across a capacitor that has been connected on the bottom with a wire. (forgive me if this is a noob question =) ) My 1st thinking would be that there is some kind of board burn that they are trying to get around, but this is just my guess.

I am currently working on a wells gardner monitor model No. 19k4677 for my championship blowing arcade and have found a capacitor connected by a wire on the Vert./Horiz. Board. I'm thinking that this could be the issue causing my distorted screen, but was wondering about the wires anyways.

Thanks Everyone,

could be many reasons:

Lack of board space vs. size of component.

design change/mod after the boards were printed.

previous tech decided it was easier to do than original location.

part of the design (maybe no real easy way to run the circuit board trace without making it double-sided (extra cost) just way easier to design by jumping the cap).

Not limited to capacitors, resistors can be found like this as well

Got a picture?

Some times it could be to fix a lifted pad, or a broken trace too depending on how it's wired up.

After Doing the cap kit and not changing out the cap with the wire connecting it my monitor issue was solved and championship blowing is working =). a fun game to play with a few people when your playing for high score.

Here is a photo of the hack for Arcadenut it looks like it was added after the board came out of the factory. I'm not sure what is so funny about championship blowing arcade, but I'm glade i brightened your day gottifour and special thanks to LongJohns for the most informative response so far.
