Why not just reproduce games like Mad Planets??

I'm curious about reproduction cabinets as well. Other than the few people here on KLOV doing some every now and then, it seems all the dedicated cabinet manufacturers never respond to emails or messages sent through their websites.

Have you tried the guy in Boulder, CO? He does good work if you don't mind shipping a long way. http://boulderarcadefactory.com/

Dude, that's the dude he's referring to who doesn't respond to dude emails. Dude.
That's a dead end option, IMHO.

I've also read that the AS cabinets are poor repros. YMMV

So far, I have two repro cabs ... one from AtariScott (Q) and another from markrl (MH-DED). Both are exceptional quality.

Here's why:

You could reproduce one and stay under the radar.

If you you start producing in bulk, even the raw cabinet guys, you're just opening yourself up to legal risk.

Anyone have a link to that 60 in 1 repro cocktail police bust that happened recently?

So, it's not economical to reproduce one, and if you try to get economical by producing many, you might find the police at your door.

I Have been working on one but the original side art artwork on the cabinet just sucks. I started with a qbert and figured Its not original so why not go a little crazy with a custom game. The spinner is the real problem but I found some NOS Wico optic boards so I just have to mount them on any spinner and get the correct optical wheel and I'm good.

First time I'm posting my custom paint job.

He built a cabinet for me in 2015 that came out nice. Didn't realize he was MIA.

markrl built my MH cab and it is amazing.

A bunch of fake bullshit.

Maybe so. But the fake bullshit I build is going to give many people fun and enjoyment with a game they wouldn't otherwise have much of a chance to see. I'm going to build as faithful a reproduction as I can, have it in our arcade where we frequently host parties, bring it to ZapCon where people don't usually want to bring their rare and expensive obscure games.

I suspect my fake bullshit will be enjoyed and appreciated by many more people than that comment.

Most of what is in our arcade is old beaters that we've fixed and restored with all original parts... In other areas, we work with what's available.

To sum up, pffffftttt.

Hey, I love Lepin Lego sets!!

Its just that with the increased interest/prices of these games, at what point do reproductions become a acceptable option for SOME of us?

I already repro Console stuff due to the collector instanity there...

I'd love a MP repro.

You need an original.. ;) Here is mine... Purchased it from the second owner (Private) who purchased it after being on location for approximately a year... I've been offered crazy money for it but was never interested in selling. I restored the control panel, rebuilt the joystick, put the coin door back to original and detailed her out...

^^ I got one of those. All original. Not so pretty but works even though the stick needs a new grommet.

Great game. JROK board probably recreates the game play OK; so with that, a some "new" parts, and if you really want to enjoy the game, then I see no problem doing a repro. (been there; done that ... with Q and MH-DED).

Why not? Lack of significant interest. Compounded by the fact that a reproduction further shrinks the audience for this (especially if it's emulation). And top it off with the fairly low profit margin on cabs (let alone a boutique run)... unless you're cutting a ton of corners.
