Im not trying to be rude, I'm in my late 20s.. But the Tron movie, I found to be not very good at all. Slow moving, and the contrast of all the bright lights with the dark makes me queezy. Not to mention the games are pretty plain, and not that interesting to me. Just seeking an explanation.

If you grew up with it back in the day, you would probably think difrently about it.
it is like saying .... say 15 years from now why is high school musical so popular.... hahaha :)

It's a generational thing. I'm in my late-20s as well. Though, I'm really into sci-fi and fantasy films/novels. So I can appreciate that Tron was an iconic and innovative film for its time. I agree that the actual movie is so-so as far as how it progresses but it was still enjoyable for me. The game is a pretty neat mixture of mini-games and the cab just looks sweet in the dark. I don't see myself owning one in my lifetime, but it's unique. With the new movie coming out, I can imagine how many $2000-3000 trons are going to show up on CL and ebay.

An appropriate statement would be, "You just had to be there."

The game on the other hand is lame, IMO. I love the cabinet, but never cared for the gameplay that much...

I like the game play, kinda reminds me a little of a future mini Olympics or like "The Running Man" movie.

I've always liked Tron (both the game and movie). It's one of the few games that I'm really good at :D

I completely agree with you just FYI

Ten years from now, some random poster is gonna say:

I'm in my late 20's, but I just don't get (put in thing fader has a huge nostalgia boner for). The movie sucked. There weren't enough fast jump cuts. The characters were not believable and the special FX were so cheesy. Then we get to the games, which sucked big time. This thing is dusty and makes me sneeze. Someone explain it to me.

I don't think you share the nostalgia that the movie and games offer since you didn't experience it back in the 80's?

The movie is nostalgic and not for everyone for sure. I love it, but wouldn't expect any of my quests to enjoy it like I do so I don't think I'd be breaking it out at a party.

The Tron game itself was very popular, and if you compare it to other games during the same time period, the 4 games in 1 theme was awesome and was accepted well... Hell, I even remember Tron competitions or tourneys at my local mall it was so popular. To me, the music and gameplay transport me back to the 80's, and that's one of the reasons I love this hobby. Obviously this isn't going to be the same for you. I still remember the first time I played the game in 20 years.. the music alone gave me goosebumps. Unless you were a teenager in an arcade in the 80s, pumping quarters into the game, and hoping to compete in a Tron game tourney, etc, it just may not be the same.

To me, Discs of Tron is one of the most kick ass games out.. I remember playing that the most as a kid, and it also takes me back.. the gameplay is progressive and has a lot of changes to make you just want to come back again and again for me (multi-platform, platforms that change levels, block walls, moving block walls, and in later stages having to pick the right level to throw your disc at (high to low), etc., etc. Plus the 3-D like setup of the screen is awesome to boot. Again, perhaps it's a generational thing?

That being said, there are plenty of classic games that I don't care for that a lot of people like, but the bottom line is I collect what I enjoy and like.. not what others think is cool or what they like. I have visitors tell me that Tron is too difficult of a game all the time so I know it's not for everyone.

And yeah, they do look cool! :) That alone may be the reason some people have the game!

My favorite game always has been Donkey Kong. So, I'm not much for sugar high 2000's movies or games. But watching Tron makes me feel like im staring at a flourescent bulb in darkness for 2 hours. It seriously just instantly ignites my eyes and gives me a headache.

I'm in my early 20s and I love it.

As for the movie, I didn't see it young, heck, I think the first time I saw it was within the last 5 years. It may not be action packed, but I love old technology, and messing around with it. so, I think that's why I like it. I love some of the technobabble and jokes that go on through it

as for the game. I agree, the cabinet is a work of art. It is probably THE coolest cabinet by looks alone, and under a black light. Plus, the game play is pretty entertaining too. I can see where some wouldn't like it, but I think it's pretty good

Yeah, its a "you had to be there thing".

I'm an old enough goat to say I saw Star Wars in the theater in 1977. We were all in awe from the very beginning.

Even today kids enjoy the original Star Wars, but if you didn't see it in the theater during that time in the 70's, you missed something that cannot be duplicated.

Tron is the same way, but on a smaller scale IMO.

Agreed, I'm over 40, like the look of the cab (art, blacklight, stick) but the games aren't my cup of tea, Disc's of Tron I did like playing bitd but not enough to justify paying a crazy price to own one. :)

The movie.....well.....I like it more now then I did then for some strange reason.....

To me Tron was something that was just there, There was no escape from it.
Stepping in to a discs of Tron Cabinet was so awesome.

Even though I did not give Tron or discs of Tron much love I will never forget the day inserted a coin and played it.
