Why is it that arcade/pinball games are equal trades for dirtbikes?

Why is it that people on Craigslist selling arcade games or pinball machines will accept cash or trade for "dirts or quads"? Since when are arcade games equal in value to a dirtbike? Am I way off on this?

Now, I get it if you are into dirt bikes/quads and you have a bunch of arcade games to trade, but I'm baffled by the guy with one converted cab with lock bars and the screen is showing only green that will trade you for a dirt bike.

Not a clue. Try emailing and see if he'll be willing to trade it for "dirt".

LOL- do people that are into dirt bikes really call them "dirts"?

Yes.
Dirt-bikes minus the engine is equal to dirt-bike / 2 = dirt. ;)
Um.... I pretty sure he meant "dirt" as in....well.... DIRT.

EDIT: Unless you meant something to do with "dirts and quads" from a particular ad.

It's simple redneck math. Somebody on eBay was selling a very rare collectible video game for $2000. Used dirt bikes are about $1500, so that beat-to-sh*t, 4 times converted non-working arcade game they picked up at the dump has got to be worth a dirt bike.

The one I see fairly often is people offering to trade for guns. Um, yeah that really makes me feel safe going to someones house who's looking for guns.

I'm into off-roading via dirt bikes or quads, and I have both. My 1983 KDX175 will be sold this summer as I have broken too many bones riding it. The engine has been re-nickle plated back to OEM specs, and she runs superb. I'll be looking to get $500.00 for it, or a Toobin' :p

Both quads are 300EX's and worth about $1500 a piece - and neither are for sale. But if they were, I'd be looking to get a Rush 2049 for one

Ah, it looks like you have the dirts/quads-to-arcade games conversion table. :p

See, all of this sounds like a fair trade. If I had a Toobin' and wanted a dirt bike I think that's a fine deal. Around here assholes just charge too much. Usually by a factor of 2, but sometimes you'll some dork who wants $200 for a bare ms pac cabinet with no paint. $200 or a laptop computer.

I might be a redneck. Not dirtbike but four wheelers. I have been selling off games to fun a LTZ400 purchase.

Perhaps pinball and arcades are a mysterious link between Nerds and Rednecks.

Maybe theres just a universal connection between items that are fun?

Who doesn't like dirtbikes and ATVs ? Who doesn't like Pinball? ...

You be the one going into the deal with the gun in that scenario if they're looking for guns. I have guns, dirt bikes and games... They're all interchangeable currency to me.

And this is where the barter system fell down in the first place....

Everyone has different interests. If I have a game and you want it, and offer me a gun, or a dirtbike, or a "quad" for it, I would have absolutely no interest in dealing with you. But, if you offered me a VAX 11/780 minicomputer, then we're talking.

Damn. I had one of those. I threw it off a roof!

;)

The Barter system may not always work. You have to be lucky enought to find that one person that wants what you have, and vs. It some times works in your favour.

I traded in 6 GameCubes (Which I paid $5 each for) to Ebgames when they bumpped up the trade value so I could get my Wii, back in 2006.

Two days ago I trade said wii for this guys Nes and snes collection. I've sold off a fair chunk of it equallying more then what the wii and extra controllers cost retail back in 06.

Today I trade 3 of those games to another member on here, for 6 Playchoice 10 Games.

Its not the same as the whole ATV, dirtbike thing, but its all good trading.

Here's a recent one. At least he's not too picky, he'll trade for just about anything. It's a Mr. Do in a Sega cocktail he wants to trade.

No low-balling. Your car with 350,000 miles isn't going to cut it unless its something very cool and rare.

Diamonds? Kimber 1911? Hope he's not waiting by the phone. The only close value trade on that whole list is probably the car with 350,000 miles on it.

I sometimes reply to ads saying they will trade arcade games for whatever, since I own a videoga,e store I have a lot of trade ammo. I did get a bunch of vending stuff for store credit.. But most the time people are like, "oh no, this is worth a car or small truck. It's worth at least $3000, I see them sell on eBay all the time"

Sometimes browsing the barter ads in general can be entertaining. People want very specific things for something. Quite weird.
